On November 5th, at the Johnston County Courthouse Annex, we are petitioning the Johnston County Board of Commissioners regarding the Johnston County Animal Shelter. This shelter has not worked with volunteers in over 1 year. We are asking the Board to allow volunteers at the shelter. Volunteers will help improve conditions, reduce costs and increase adoption rates. We are also asking the Board to stop euthanasia by gas chamber as most NC shelters have already discontinued this practice. We need your help. Please show your support by signing this petition. Update on Nov 5th meeting Thank you to everyone that signed the petition! Together, we can make a BIG difference at the Johnston County Animal Shelter. Last night, we let the Board of Commissioners know we had over 350 signatures and counting (over 250 written) to have a volunteer program and to stop the gas chamber at Johnston County Animal Shelter. We presented our concerns with some good facts and solutions. We explained the importance of volunteers and how they can improve the shelter and decrease euthansia/increase adoptions. We requested the Board to help us get this program started which would be a great value to Johnston County but more importantly our shelter animals. The plan is to continue to get signatures to get the word out-so please sign the petition. We will monitor what the Board does with this information in order to continue to see that this shelter has volunteers and stops using the gas chamber. We will post updates.
