Saw these lighthouses on Craigslist and thought one would make a nice Christmas gift for my wife for her flower bed. What do you think? Only 11 more shopping days and I want to get her something different but not too expensive.

Unless I lived near the coast I wouldn't want one but that's just me ;-)

i love them but then again i love lighthouses. If your wife likes lighthouses i think it is a great idea, love the solar light part.

$100 is way strong for a few clay pots turned upside down and a solar light on it. Not bad looking but that price is a breaker for me. Me and the misses love lighthouses and have a few in our yard but eh...

Not the prettiest lighthouse I have seen, JMHO,, and you could make that for way less!!!! Looks like 3 different size clay pots turned upside down on each other, some paint, and a solar light on top that you can get cheap in any electrical dept of any store. Just sayin'.

Pretty sure you could make that way cheaper than $100 and I know it would mean a lot more to me if my husband made it...

That being said, I think it's kind of tacky but I don't like stuff like that in my flower beds.

No way I would pay $100 for that. At the very most they have $20 in it.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks all for the feedback. I met with the guy and took a look at one. They are actually very nice. I priced it out doing it my self based on how he told me he did them. 3 pots $12.00. Solar light $4-$10 depending on what I used. Paint $10-$12 dollars (he used acrylic paints and hand painted them). Selant $6. Hardware to hold it together $3-$10. They don't just sit on one another but are held together with hardware interally. He said depending on which light you use you could use threaded rod with fender washers and nuts or if it had a metal tube screwed onto the light you drill a hole in the right place and use a clevis pin. He said he did it that way to make it easier to move and also so you could take it apart and replace a pot if one get broken or cracked. He said he washes each pot and bakes them dry in the oven to make sure there are no cracks. He said it takes about 2-3 hours of labor plus drying time over 5 days to get the finished lighthouse. Total materials $35-$50. Add your time to that and I think $100 isn't unreasonable. I told him maybe he shouldn't tell everyone how to do it or he'll never sell one. He said almost everyone that he's told how to do it calls him back and orders one because it is not as easy as it sounds. My wife loves lighthouses so long story short, I pick mine up next Saturday. Thanks for all the feedback. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
