We have for years attended meetings, rallied friends and neighbors to either support or speak out about rezonings, in the end we do not feel that our voice for or against mattered. That seems to be the basis of this thread that the planning/zoning department is not listening to the residents.

We can only hope that the new Food Lion looks like some of the nicer stores they're now building, with perpendicular gables and colored metal roofing, as opposed to the ubiquitous "strip mall" model that falls apart after a few years.
(fingers crossed is all you can do at this point)

I'm thinking a black and white metal roof spotted like a cow, but I'm guessing you'd choose a metal roof that looks like tobacco leaves! ;) Either way, I'm over my hissy fit, and getting used to the idea of having a store over there.

The Food Lion is supposed to be 1 of only 2 in North Carolina that looks this way. With windows along the top making it look similar to a two story home/building. It is supposed to be very attractive.

Not sure if I should post this under a new thread, but here goes: What are they building/doing at the corner of Cleveland School Road and Monroe?

I saw sewer pipe and concrete storm sewer components on the ground, If I had to guess it looks residential.

At one point back in 2008 there was this approved:
    Name - Acres - Lots - Location - Water - Sewer
    Meadows Edge—formerly Wells/ Fuller Tract - 88.5 - 133 - Cleveland Rd., near Monroe Rd. - Y - Y

Not sure if that was ever built?

Stoplights started going up today. Assuming they put up 3 (I saw at least 2 spots, plus the existing one), area is gonna be no better than 40/42 strip for traffic.

I agree but I think eventually they will put them at Barber Mill. But I think they should at least hold off till they finally plan on extending Barber Mill to the back of the high school. Just a thought. PS thanks

I cant recall where I read it but the work that was done at the Barber Mill/Cleveland Rd. intersection was done in advance of signalization.
