It's just barely a mile. It's all because of the VA Center.

I just finished the Alta survey on that about a month ago so things may have been waiting on that to finalize financing and such.

Does anyone know what is being built next to The Pro Boys on Business 70 in Clayton? The lot has been cleared, leveled and lots of equipment is there.

    Door mfg. coming to Selma.
    from TBJ copied and pasted.
A window and door manufacturer is planning an investment that could create hundreds of jobs in a small Johnston County town, according to sources with knowledge of the plans.

On Thursday, the company is expected to announce a roughly $100 million investment that will create around 500 jobs in the Town of Selma, according to multiple sources. The average wages for these jobs will be above $50,000, the sources say — well above the town's median household income of $29,325, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

While most sources who spoke to the Triangle Business Journal declined to name the company linked to the investment, one source said the company is New York-based Crystal Window and Door Systems. The company was founded in 1990 and has five major production facilities across the country.

"At this moment all these discussions are at early stages and very preliminary," Steve Chen, CEO of Crystal Window and Door Systems, said in an email Wednesday when asked about the potential project.

In April, Crystal Window and Door Systems announced a $121 million investment to construct an advanced manufacturing facility and regional corporate headquarters in Texas — a move expected to create 504 jobs.

The company is expected to put an operation in Selma's Eastfield Crossing development, a mixed-use project by AdVenture Development that totals 3 million square feet with a business park, retail, housing, hospitality and more.

A public notice for a meeting Thursday between the Johnston County Board of Commissioners and the Selma Town Council in Selma says the boards will discuss "a proposed economic development incentive grant."

"A company proposes to develop, build and equip a new window and door manufacturing facility in the Eastfield Development located in Selma," the notice says. "The company has proposed the development in Johnston County in consideration of certain economic incentives in the form of annual cash grants paid from general County funds over a seven-year period beginning after any specified requirements for investments and job creation have been satisfied."

Sources did not disclose to the Triangle Business Journal how much the project will receive in incentives.

During a Selma Town Council meeting Tuesday, council members will vote on rezoning 25.35 acres in Eastfield Crossing from residential-agricultural to heavy industrial use, according to a meeting agenda.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce's Economic Investment Committee, which approves state incentives for major projects, is also holding a special meeting Thursday.

This investment would be a major win for Selma, a town with a population of just over 6,800. It's not the first industrial investment coming to Eastfield Crossing. In 2022, New Jersey-based Do Good Foods announced it would invest more than $100 million and hire roughly 100 workers for a 135,000-square-foot industrial building in the development.

North Carolina has landed large economic investments in recent weeks. Most recently, Vietnamese solar panel manufacturer Boviet Solar announced plans to invest more than $294 million and to create over 900 jobs at a new facility in Greenville.
