I saw a few different articles on this Clayton Development saying it would include a Target. That would be 3 Targets in a 15 mi +/- stretch between Timber Dr, White Oak, then this one. Plus, the new one in Selma. I'd look for this to have any major store that White Oak doesn't have. Costco??

Those were just illustrations in the presentation about what other sites they have done and what they look like. And everyone has taken that as speculation that they would come here. Also, as for a Costco, I think that would be prohibited per the UDO.

There are only 2 large stores on submitted preliminary plan. 36 min into video shows site plans with possible buildings. so, Costco is bulky items, I guess?

Well, I guess they decided not to open August 20th. There is a review on Google Maps that says they will open September 3rd. Who the heck knows...

I wasn't clear if the Bulk Item Sales precluded a BJs/Costco/Sam's. But I think it is a fair guess. I don't really understand why that would not be allowed though.

Below is their "Visioning Concept", this is just showing what they think it might look like in the future really and a bunch of tenants they have at other sites. Nothing saying these will come to Clayton.

The Starbucks coming soon sign on NC 50 was gone last night when i came home. Not sure if that means anything or not. It bid in May and had a projected start date on June. I figured it had got tied up in permitting.

I may have missed it, but does anyone know what is going behind the Publix shopping center?

I seemed to remember the county denied the rezoning for the apartments behind Publix. Now that I'm going back and trying to find the meeting minutes to confirm that (and the johnstonnc.com website search SUUUUCKS!), I can only find that it kept getting pushed back from one Planning Board meeting to another, then it was pushed from December 2024 to January 2025, and there was no further mention of it.

However, if @madison is talking about the active construction area that's a little further up Veteran's Parkway, that will be self-storage units.

The rumor on next-door is Starbucks pulled out and 7 Brew Coffee is going in instead. I've never seen a 7 brew on my bidding web site, but not all companies list there. I don't see anything on their web site for future locations etc. We will see. Ill try to dig into Joco Permitting today to see if i see anything.

Saw something today on Nextdoor - and I take all those posts with a grain of salt - that an Eggs Up Grill is coming to the former ABC store near exit 319 in the Food Lion shopping center. Any confirmation?

Here's a Facebook claim, for what it's worth.

And there's also a comment on that post that says a McDonald's is going to be built next to the Starbucks. That matches up with the Starbucks plans from the bid site I found, where it showed a McDonald's on the adjacent plot. BUT, another page of those same plans replaced the "future McDonald's" with some other medical clinic that doesn't operate around here. So I wonder if those plans the origin of the McDonald's rumor, or if someone has some other information.

I looked this morning, none of the address for the outparcels at Publix has had a permit pulled. There are 4 addresses for the outparcels.

I went by Publix on way to Recyling and the parking lot at 8 am Sat. looked like Walmart on black Friday. people were parked on the grass. I walked thru on Sunday, still packed. On Monday I got a sub for lunch. Still busy. I heard people were lined up Saturday at 7 am for the 8 am opening. Store looks just like Flowers store. It's Nice. Sub was good. I like having the area upstairs to eat, and they have an outdoor balcony to eat outside.

I looked in other spaces. Wake Med moving along. whatever is next to it is under construction. jersey mikes is done, I think opening today/tomorrow. They should have opened along with Publix Saturday. The places next to Jersey Mikes have no work started. On Friday I looked at permitting, and none of the 4 standalone lots up near 50 have had a permit pulled. On next-door, there are "confirmed" stores that Starbucks is still coming, and Starbucks has pulled out. So, I'll wait to see a permit pulled one way or another.

Several posts on Facebook and NextDoor saying that 100% Starbucks has pulled out and they are not building by the new Publix. Of course, that's contrasted by the several posts saying they 100% are still building and will start within a month. And both claim their source is "someone in the know". :)

The Jersey Mike's next to Publix still hasn't opened. Their Google Maps business profile now says September 17th. Their fully stocked potato chips are going to expire before they finally open!

At least Wawa has calmed down to the point of being manageable now. The verdict from the northerner family members: "It's not the same as up north, from when I was younger."
