I do not intend for this to sound negative in anyway. Donating is donating but this caught me off guard. First off, I AM an animal lover. I have a farm of dogs and cats of my own that are my babies however the disaster in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana is above the crisis of pets. There are dead bodies floating in the water, there are no homes, people are getting dehydrated and there are no hospitals to rehydrate them. I am sorry, but human life will always come before a pet. I might outrage many animal lovers on this board however this is the most horrific tragedy our country has ever seen. If you do not understand the extent of the devastation.........tune into CNN for 5 minutes.
I agree too. However, some of these families that are now homeless have pets with them that they are scrambling to find care for. It is just one less thing for them to worry about. Any way we can help any of the victims, I think is a good cause.
Helping in SOME way is better than not helping at all. Everyone has a 'soft spot', and if this gets the animal lovers to unite and give their part, then that's just a little bit more contribution. Who's to say 'give here' or 'give there' .... the point is, right now - just please give!
I got it I've got an unique idea, why don't we just help every living thing no matter what species, color or gender? What difference does it make what you help just that we come together just like we did for the 9-11 incident.
To some people, their pet IS their family. Some people may not understand this, but in my line of work I come across many people who have an animal companion that IS their life. They have no family, no close friends and that dog, or cat, or bird IS all they have in this world. Maybe everyone on this board didn't see the young doctor searching flooded streets on his precious little break time, looking for his dog, who had been in his apartment alone when he started his shift just prior to the storm. He said that that dog had been with him through college and with tears in his eyes he said that the dog IS his best friend and he was heartsick no knowing where she was of if she was even alive. There were a few families interviewed also. These people lost their homes and their possessions - while many don't have a place to live or know what tomorrow will bring, it just might ease some pain to know that someone might be looking for the pet they shared their life and home with. God instructed Noah to build the Ark, he didn't ask him to bring humans 2 x 2 aboard. just animals. We are all creatures of God and have to take care of each other - the humans that are called by their heart to care for humans will do that and those that care for the animals will do the same. What is the difference, so long as every living thing that was in the path of that storm gets the best care it can? If you only want to help humans, so be it, no one is twisting any arms.
Hey Zoo, where'ya been? I've been thinking about you, wondering if the gas prices are killing you since your business has to involve a lot of driving. Hope you're weathering the outrageous rise in gas prices okay. Just wanted to add this... now that the human being rescue has been going on for over a week, by all means, I hope people will do everything in their power to rescue as many pets as possible. But, IMHO, saving human life needed to be the focus first. I love my pets and it would be heartwrenching if they had to endure what those poor flood pets have had to endure, but, I would never want a rescuer to put the life of my pet before that of another person's life. I felt the original animal rescue post was just a little premature.
Thanks for thinking of all living creatures, mamax3. Many people chose not to evacuate because they refused to leave their pets behind. I saw an old man on TV this morning who was lying in a hospital bed with his dog. He said she had saved his life by keeping him from falling asleep and drowning while they were floating. She did this by kissing his face when he would fall asleep. Unconditional love...thats what its all about.
