http://promo.realestate.yahoo.com/americas-recession-proof-cities.html The housing market here appears to be in a slump. This being typically the busiest time of year but I'm seeing homes in my neighborhood sit on the market for quite a while with few showings. It reminds me of 2001 when IBM had lots of layoffs and some houses sat for a year or so.
http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2008/05/12/daily18.html?ana=from_rss It may be slower (home slaes) here than normal, but not bad.
Here is the Forbes article. http://www.forbes.com/2008/04/29/cities-recession-places-forbeslife-cx_jz_0429realestate.html
We get a magazine called "Insight" and Raleigh was ranked number ONE in the country for job growth. I will post it tomorrow, as I can't remember who did the survey. What brings people to a given area???? JOBS! Are there pockets where things are a little slow for various reasons? Absolutely, but overall, Raleigh and the surrounding area are doing fine.8)
I beg to differ. The home and building market around here is hurting bad. Yes, there are plenty of houses on sale and plenty of opportunities to get a good mortgage right now. However, the building business is terrible. Builders are not building new homes b/c they are trying to get rid of the ones they have built already. That has hurt our family badly.
I believe I said there were pockets that aren't doing as well.8) I agree that some builders have slowed down as I am involved in a couple different aspects of that area. However, I am starting to see some builders pick back up again. YMMV.8) And having Raleigh ranked number one in jobs is in NO WAY going to hurt us.
True some areas are doing better than other, but overall the building business in the triangle is hurting. My husband works for a building supply and it's bad.
Yep, building is definitely down right now, but not as bad as other areas. We're sitting on 2 big houses right now and wish they'd sell. Won't build any more specs until they do. But I think it's good for us, Raleigh area was getting too big for it's britches, things were going too good if you ask me...This weeds out the people who claim to be good at what they do, and leaves the ones who are good at what they do.
