    ***10U TRYOUTS****

The New Carolina Mayhem Team will be holding Open Tryouts Sat June 30th 11:00am at Nan Field In Benson NC at 500 E. Hill St. behind the Rescue Squad building. Contact Head Coach Brian Woodard at 919-279-8905 or email carolinamayhemfastpitch@gmail.com for more info. Individual tryouts will be conducted as needed and can be kept confidential, call for more details.

We will be playing 10U in the fall. We will be looking for '02 Birthdays and a select few '03 birthdays ready to make a transition. We are designing this team to stay together and progress up the age levels as a group. We have access to many fields, and once the team is set we will assign a main field to be geographically equal for every family.

We have a core group of established players who have played in top competition. Each of these girls bring unique abilities to our team. Each player is very versatile and can play multiple positions. We would welcome players for every position, and we believe in a true pitching rotation.

Our Team fosters growth in both softball and spiritual awareness. To succeed on the field, you must succeed off the field. We will not only be developing softball players but young ladies.

My daughter currently plays 10U with a rec program. My questions to you are: who will this team play against and why was this group formed?

    Awesome question(s)!

This is a travel team, so basically it tends to be the next evolution in a girls play. Travel teams tend to bridge the gap of preparing girls to play school ball. A lot of of travel girls tend to play rec ball as well as travel ball. Travel ball tends to be more competitive, while there is emphasis on having fun, fun to most of the the girls tends to be winning LOL. The girls in a travel program will have the fundamentals of hitting, throwing and fielding down. The travel programs expand on that by going to the next level of highschool and college level defensive plays, slap hitting, base stealing, throw downs, and more advanced and faster pitching.

A travel team in most areas are generally composed of the best players in a local area. The bigger the area the more teams you tend to have.

Our team was formed b/c we had several girls who desired to play for a certain coach and some parents expressed interest in playing for Brian Woodard, and asked if he would form a team. We have some girls that played with other teams that expressed a desire to play together.

In travel ball you see alot of the same girls and play with them. Its not unusual to see 2 teams in the field playing against each other and later in the day, to see that same team in a dug out cheering right along side the team they just played. The girls all know each other and and friends. Over time they like to play together so teams just naturally form.

We have girls from different areas who would like to play in a local centralized location, thus we formed the Mayhem.

We have values and beliefs that are similar to each other. We think that coaches dont coach their own daughters, we have another coach instruct them. We dont play daddy ball. Every girl is responsible and held to the same standards. Everyone struggles. Sometimes everyone no matter who they are has to sit down.

We prefer our girls to stay together and form friendships, they stay the night with one another, vacation together and hang out together. We do team meals and we encourage everyone to do share their spiritual beliefs.

Success on the field comes from success off the field.

We also look at the parents, we want our parents to get along, we tend to believe that having good parents willing to work with us and their child even if child isnt as talented is more important than having an Allstar player whose parents are not in it for the right reasons.

We play in the local area trying to stay within driving distance to play in tournaments. Generally about a 5 county area. We try to rely on sponsorships to cover costs (uniforms, insurance, league fees and tournament registrations). Typically a spring season will cost 200-350 dollars depending on how many sponsors you get. Generally a spring season you will play 9-12 tournamnets. 5 -8 games per tournment. 40-55 games per season.

Thanks and I tend to ramble but i hope i answered your questions!
