Folks, it's a great day for the following reasons: 1. This is the day the Lord has made! 2. It's my bride's birthday today. 3. I just had my first two home grown tomato sandwiches of the year. Glory! The first one was with a German Johnson tomato; the 2nd one was with Homestead. Required items for me: Fresh sour dough bread from Pepperidge Farms, Southern style mayo from Lowes foods (or Dukes mayo), and some salt and black pepper. (Add bacon and lettuce when available) Add some ice cold homemade tea and you've got a combo I've been dreaming of since frost got my tomatoes last year. Tomato sandwiches are great any time, day or night! I'll be in hog (make that tomato) heaven for the rest of the summer. Hope everyone has a great week. i personally don't bother with the lettuce anymore....it just waters down the taste of the mayo, tomatoes, and bacon....still waiting for mine, but it looks like i'll be in tomato heaven with you by the 4th of july
I am JEALOUS! Mine are still green :-( I cheated and went to the farmer's market last week, but it isn't the same.
ubergeek: hang in there! They'll be worth the wait elims: I've planted some cherry tomatoes for the 1st time this year; looking forward to adding them to a good salad. dangerboy: I'll eat a BLT every now and then, but just a plain old "sammie", as pirategirl says, is the best. I remember using garden tomatoes after working in the tobacco fields to help get the tobacco gum off my arms and hands when I was young. I'd cut a tomato in two and use one half for each arm. Worked like a charm. Then I found this interesting factoid today: Restore blond hair color - If you're a blonde who has ever gone swimming in a chlorine-treated pool, you know it can sometimes give your hair an unappealing green tint. To restore the blond color to your hair, saturate it with undiluted tomato juice, cover it with a shower cap, and wait 10-15 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly, shampoo, and soon you'll be ready to have more fun. Here's the link: http://www.rd.com/content/extraordinaryuses/extraordinary-uses-for-tomato-juice/ Kent
