I was on 40 going into Raleigh the other day, and there was this person on his moped. I think the top speed on those things is around 30-40 mph. He was driving on the shoulder, but then the shoulder became an exit/merge lane and I got really scared for him. Guess it's Darwin's theory. Is there someone I could have called (Police, etc) to report this person and save him from himself? 911 would not have been the right number, but is there a # for state police I could have called from my cell?
In NC, you can reach the highway patrol by calling *HP on your cell phone. That number varies from state to state, but that's what it is here. http://www.nccrimecontrol.org/newsrels/SHP/2001/easter2001.html
I called a few months ago to report a guy on his bicycle! And he was riding in the construction zone - those cement barricades were still up blocking the shoulders, so he was riding IN THE LANE!!! :withstupid:
I may be mistaken here and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am but I thought there was a state law that required a minimum speed on Interstates and that if you could not maintain that minimum speed then you could get a ticket. In this case the moped/bicycle would both be breaking that law. Craig
Bone headed I ride and this would not even be attempted by a saine person. This is just a very foolish act. Thats my view.
