Just a note that we are almost ready for the latest upgrade to the 4042.com Discussion Forums. As a recap, we first started out using WWWBoard (any of you old timers remember those days! :shock: ). For some time now we have been using phpBB, which has served us well but continues to have some maintenance and security issues. After considerable testing, we have selected to use vBulletin as the next upgrade to the 4042.com Discussion Forums. In evaluating different options, we considered speed, security, vendor support and forum features as top priorities. To help with the transition, have been working to configure vBulletin so that the "look and feel" is a close match to the current forums. Once we have made a successful switch to the new system and confirmed the operation of the new software, we will then: - start making new features available that exist in vBulletin - establish a new "look" or visual appearance for the forums We are at the point that we are ready to do a trial import of the current forums into the new vBulletin software. While the import is taking place, access to the 4042.com Forums will need to be shut down. We will attempt to do this off hours (late at night) when activity on the forums is the lightest. Once the trial import has taken place and we have confirmed the proper operation of vBulletin, we will do a final import and switch to the new system. As with any large transition of this type, there can be issues that develop, so your patience is appreciated during this upgrade process. This notice will be updated the day before making the switch over to vBulletin to give everyone notice when it is taking place. Please note: - Your login username/password will remain the same - The URL of the forums will change - If you have been using the "Automatically log me in" option and want to continue to do so, you will need to reselect it on the new system - During the transition, the Habitat for Niko forum will be renamed to a more general "Pets" forum
My only question is that our firewall at work blocks most forums, except this one, and the one at i9570.com. It has something to do with the way the url reads. Should I expect any issues with the conversion?
I don't think you should find an issue with that as the URL is very similar to the one on the current system.
Well that's a very good thing..... I mean, if I couldn't access 4042 during the day, I might have to actually........gasp..........work!
NOTE: 4042.com Discussion Forums will likely be closed for a period of time tonight as we test the new system. Just an FYI!
First import attempt went fairly well but will require some additional testing. We may need to take the Discussion Forums offline periodically as we test the process. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause as we move forward with this upgrade process.
Thanks for the offer - the import script is provided by vBulletin and requires that the source and target databases to reside on the same box during the process. I think we should get it worked out pretty soon...just a few weird items occured with dates on the initial import trial run. Thanks again!
