Johnston County Arts Council today announced a $7,500 donation from Progress Energy in a gesture of continued commitment to the Artists-in-the-Schools program. This donation was made possible in part by the Workplace Giving Campaign, a program that allows Progress Energy employees to designate to local programs like the Artists-in-the-Schools. “The Johnston County Arts Council’s Artists-in-the-Schools Program enhances life for our customers in that area, and it is always our hope that the programs and projects we fund will make a positive difference in the lives of our customers and employees throughout the service territory,” said Marty Clayton, Manager of Community Relations at Progress Energy. The Artists-in-the-Schools program is supported by the Fred Smith Company, the Johnston County Arts Council, Johnston County Schools, and corporate, foundation and individual donors. This program is a comprehensive arts in education program that is designed to utilize the arts to reinforce and expand basic curriculum through exposure to performances, hands-on workshops, and residencies with professional artists
