Here is a note I received - the author of the note and foster mom of Rocky is NOT some scam artist. She has a great heart and is doing her best to give this big guy a second chance at a great life.

Christine also has a Paypal account if that would be a more convenient way for you to make a donation. She's honest and trustworthy and WILL forward any funds not needed for Rockys treatment to JCAPL..

I know this is a rough time for everyone with the economy in the state it's in, but if you're an animal lover, please consider a donation of even 5.00(about what it costs for breakfast at the Golden Arches with a large coffee) if 100 people pitched in, Rocky would likely be well on the road to recovery.

Here are Christine's notes/pics of Rocky below it:

As many of you already know my black Labrador retriever passed away last week. We had him 13.5 great years. To help us through the grieving process and to help an animal out in need, we decided to foster "Rocky" through the Johnston County Animal Protection League. Rocky had been in the shelter for three weeks before we picked him up on Saturday 2/7/09. We believe Rocky is a 2-4 year old English Labrador retriever. Rocky is a beautiful dog, very sweet, loveable, smart and really wants to play. He loves being around people he would make a great pet to adoptive parents someday. HOWEVER, ROCKY needs your help. After only two days of having Rocky, we learned that he has heartworm and sore back leg - possibly from a previous injury that was never treated. There were discussions of euthanasia due to the costs associated with the treatments. However, Rocky has a lot of life ahead of him and we don't want to give up on him just yet. The treatment is expensive and the League who graciously treats 100's of pets a year doesn't have the funds at this time to treat Rocky's heartworm and leg. I don't want to put Rocky on a waiting list and I don't want him to get worse. You pet lovers out there know heart worm is a serious condition and the sooner it is treated the better! I want to get Rocky better as soon as possible to get him a permanent loving home.

We need to raise at least $500.00 for Rocky's heartworm treatment and x-rays of his leg and then additional funds for unforeseen treatment of the leg, possible pain medication and preventative medications.

I am calling out to all of you pet lovers and asking if you might be willing to donate any money for Rocky's treatment. Any contributions will greatly help me and my husband with all of Rocky's bills. Any additional funds generated over Rocky's bills will go back into Johnston County Animal Protection Leagues fund for other shelter and foster pets.

Please contact me if you would like to make a donation and/or if you are interested in adopting Rocky. Contributions are tax deductible. If you want to give cash, I will have tax receipts for you. Please make checks payable to the Johnston County Animal Protection League "JCAPL" AND PUT "ROCKY" ON THE RE/MEMO LINE. Send the contributions to me. Thank you so much for your help.

Also do note that you can sponsor Rocky through the JCAPL website.... just log on to JCAPL.org; and make a penpal sponsorship donation toward him.

Thanks for all that can and will donate - and to all for the prayers that are welcome too for all of "our" animals to find their loving forever homes as well as make healthy recoveries for any unfortunate issues such as Rocky's.

If you cannot donate monetarily, we are also in need of blankets or any type of bedding that can be put in dog crates, chlorox wipes, toys, food. When you're out shopping  on a Saturday, feel free to bring any donated stuff to our adoption event located @ Pet Smart White Oak Shopping Center.

Zoo - do you have her paypal info or do I need to email her? Just pm me if you have it.

JoCoRes - do the blankets have to be new? I have some Jurassic Park, etc., the boys have "outgrown" if those are ok.

    Thanks to you both...

No, they don't have to be new. I just had a Brownie Troop donate some old blankets. :)
