I have a request for all my 4042 family (and some of you may have already read this on facebook, so sorry for the repeat here.)....I am asking for your prayers for my niece (cousin) Ida. She is in the emergency room having tests run on her. She has Cystic Fibrosis and recently had to have a pick line put in for medication. She d...eveloped a blood clot. She had gone back to the doctors and was given medicine to help with that blood clot. From what I understand, she started having tingling in her arm and hand and her arm swelled up and I am not sure what all else that happened, but she had to go to the ER. It seems she has 2 blood clots....one in her arm and one in her jugular (sp) vein. Please send prayers her way! She is very special to me...she is my Goddaughter. She is always so full of life and full of it period and is funny and it just hurts to think of what is happening and what her mom is going thru. Thank you so much for your prayers. I will keep you posted as I find out things.

I did want to add that she is 21 or 22.

For sure. It's awful to feel helpless when a loved one is sick. Sending all the thoughts and prayers I can.

Thank you so much!! I just got a call and the ER sent her home and told her she probably had pneumonia! Now you would think a hospital would know that someone with CF should be admitted into the hospital with that. From what I understand her sister is on alert...they got the tingling to quit...so if Ida gets the least bit of tingling or anything, they will be taking her to a hospital in Nashville (about an hour and a half away) and go from there. My Aunt is exhausted and really worried about those blood clots. But please keep those prayers coming. She and her brother (who also has CF) have had a rough year and been in and out of the hospital quite a bit this year.

Once they take care of the clots (and I'm assuming they pulled out the picc line), they should consider putting in a port for future medication needs. They are much less likely to develop clots and I believe are easier to take care of when they are not being used. Ports can stay in for a much longer time than a PICC line.

I've had a PICC and mine was in for almost 7 months. That was one of the longest times that my doctor had ever seen. I didn't really have problems with it, but it had a tiny crack in it when we pulled it. So good thing we pulled it when we did or I would have been in a world of hurt.

Prayers are being said for your her and yes she should have been hospitalized for the pneumonia alone ~ not to mention the clots in her two veins. Just b/c the tingling is gone doesn't mean the clots aren't there. She needs to get her to a hospital that has more of a specialty in CF. While I am not Duke's biggest fan, they do know how to treat their CF patients.

She goes to Vanderbelts in Nashville because she lives in Kentucky. Not sure how she is doing today. I have not heard any more than what I did last night, but as soon as I know something else, I will post.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Ida seemed to be doing ok this weekend, other than being tired. From what I understand she is going to Nashville tomorrow to her regular doctor. That is all I know.

Glad to hear she is doing ok. I pray for her, her brother and all those that have CF. In lieu of gifts for my birthday, I have requested friends and family to donate to the CF Foundation. Hopefully some day CF will stand for CURE FOUND!
