If anyone here owns a restaruant or cafe or whatever, can you plaese tell me what the proper thing to do would have been: I went to a restaruant/deli - sit-down/takeout/delivery place today in Raleigh. Now this may seem trivial but I felt like they could have made a difference. I got a "To Go" that included a medium drink. When I went to get my drink (self-service), I was informed they had no more lids in the place to fit my cup. They had ran out a little while ago. That was fine, it happens. When I asked if they had something else I could place over it so it would not spill in the car, they said no. And that was it. Now, if I was in thier place, I would have told the customer, "Ma'am, here is a larger cup which we have the lids for. Just go ahead and refill your drink and we are sorry for the inconvenience." Would that not have been the way to go? Or am I just being silly? It sounds trivial I know but what if someone went in and ordered a large "to go" order with medium drinks as well?????? I mean this place STAYS hoppin' at lunch and dinner. They are not hurting for money if they had to give away a larger drink for a smaller price. And I'm sure lids would be there before the place would go broke...LOLOLOL What do you think?
Well, I don't own a restaurant, but I did work in one. (Not that it matters) Logically, the thing to do would have been to tell the customer at the time of ordering that there were no more lids available for the drink ordered to-go. That would have given the customer (you) the option of ordering a different size drink, or accepting a drink with no lid. Barring that, though, since you were given a cup to go, and they should have known it at the time, they should have offered the larger cup (and lid). There is enough of a mark up on drinks that their profit margin would not have been severely affected.
