Not that big of a deal....

"Nifong said he plans to proceed with kidnapping and sexual assault charges against the three players."

I don't know how he thinks he is going to get convictions on that. If she can't decide now all of a sudden if she was raped, how's she going to testify "with certainty" that she was sexually assaulted (which he STILL hasn't produced any DNA on) or that she was kidnapped? Nifong just used this whole thing to get re-elected and the people that voted for him just couldn't see that. Also, why is he just now getting around to interviewing her? I hope he enjoys this time in office because I see it being his last...

Its time to save face now. That is why he says he will press the kidnapping and sexual assualt charges.
Lets see where all that support she received in the beginning goes. I bet all those that came out and demanded Duke be burned to the ground will not be found for comment.

I agree that the case has been badly mishandled, but I don't think Nifong was in any danger of not being re-elected in any event. IIRC, he had no serious opposition until this case got plastered all over the news, and then opponents got on the ballot by petition. In fairness, it was the defense that first started trying the case in the press. Nifong then responded in kind, causing the whole affair to escalate out of control. He should, instead, have kept his mouth shut and asked to court to order the defense attorneys to do likewise. I hope he has learned to use the phrase, "No comment."
