Did anyone see the accident this morning in front of Cleveland Elementary School, involving a motorcycle and a car....didn't look good. Wondering if anyone knew of the condition of the folks involved?
Drove past it @ 7:30 A.M. SHP, CFD, there but they had already removed the person who hit the car. It looks like the person was riding a scooter and impacted the car which was attempting to turn left into the school parking lot. Hope that the person riding the scooter is not hurt too seriously.
I heard about that on the radio and the first person I thought about was Ken. Since you said it was a scooter and not a motorcycle then I'm pretty sure it was not him. Hope everyone is ok.
Hope the rider is not hurt too badly, I don't know why people so often turn in front of a scooter or motorcycle like that. The last two nights I have passed someone riding a scooter on Raleigh Rd., and I always worry about him in the dark.
I passed by a little after 7:00 and they were in the process of moving a person out of the car. It looked bad. All I could really see of the scooter was the wheels sticking out from under the front of the car. I hope the driver was able to jump free before impact.
OUCH! I think I've seen this man on the scooter before - believe he's the same one who rides it from Old Fairgrounds Rd. (coming from Benson/Coats area) and up 210 daily. Have seen him at normal work traffic areas going in both directions. VERY unsafe - especially on Old Fairgrounds where there are curves and people drive way too fast. So sorry he got hurt - I wouldn't dare attempt that route on a scooter - people are in way too much of a hurry to be considerate or watchful of riders who can't get much about 35mph. or so. Hope he'll be okay.
My kids go to Cleveland Elem. and I've always been vocal about saying that they need a stop light at the main entrance of the school. It is a unsafe mess. When I used to do car pool, cars would be turning into the parking lot from both directions and pulling out in both directions at the same time. A total freaking nightmare. I wrote the school board about it and was completely ignored. Now my kids ride the bus, thank God. West View has a light but Cleveland Elem doesn't get one. I don't understand it.
I think this is because there's already a light close by there, at Cornwalis. I see your point about safety, but it would also cause a big back-up with the two lights begin so close together. At one point (many yrs ago when my kids were there) they used to have someone try to direct traffic in/out of there - but that proved to be very unsafe also, I think the person actually got hit!
I don't know if anyone else out here knows what color scooter this man rides, but the one involved in the accident was grey or a gunmetal grey in color.
There is one male teacher that dives a GRAY (sliver) motorcycle to school? Any word if it was him? It's a H-D 883 I think, not a scooter.
It was the closest thing to a worried face that I saw on the smilies. I prob should have gone with
It's all good girlie girl  I'm not trying to be ugly, my friends son drives a blue scooter (he's mentally challenged - not like...anyways) from over by 210 to 4042 (cleveland campus)
I just mentioned it because I'm pretty sure one of the kids or folks who works at the pizza place drives the scooter because it's there every time I've been. I didn't know if maybe somebody knows them or not to make sure it's not them. Whoever it was, I truly hope they will be okay.
