No, it's not the truth. here's the rest of the story:

    1. It was just as illegal then. VP gets fired. Jack gets expelled. Nobody gives a s***. Three years later, Jack and the VP get drunk and commit suicide together. Again, nobody gives a s***.

    2. Johnny, having faked the friendship, comes back to school the next day with a 6-inch knife and buries it in Mark's side. Mark spends the next 6 months in the hospital and has to repeat the grade next year. (too bad Johnny wasn't in jail or at least suspended.)

    3. (2006) Jeffrey's mother calls his psychiatrist and reports the side affect. The doctor adjusts his medication. The next day, Jeffrey not only can sit still in class but he can also pay attention to what he hears and reads. He goes on to be validictorian of his high school and earns a Rhodes Scholarship.

    4. REALITY: No one was ever arrested for spanking their child on the butt with an open hand. Billy's Dad reads a book on good parenting skills and learns how to give Billy consequences for his behavior which are appropriate. In this case, he teaches Billy to take responsibility for his mistakes by having him mow the yard until he has worked enough to pay for the window he broke. Billy grows up to become a successful businessman and multimillionaire because he knows the value of a dollar as well as the value of taking responsibility.

    5. Mark quits smoking cigarettes, mostly because a bunch of do-gooder liberals educated him on the harmful effects of smoking. He no longer gets headaches and doesn't get in trouble for taking aspirin to school.

    6. 2006, the REALITY: Pedro takes English as a Second Language in school. He becomes fluent in English and graduates HS. In the meantime he teaches his parents to speak English. Everyone benefits.

    6. Because of sex education in school, Mary is a lot more careful about her behavior and doesn't get pregnant. Finishes HS on time, gets married and has children on her own terms.

    7. You forgot to mention that Johnny blows three fingers off of his left hand. Due to his deformity, he never can attract a mate and never has children. Natural selction works to perfection in cutting down on the less intelligent members of the gene pool.

    8. 2006, the REALITY: In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing. The teacher fills out an incident report and notifies his parents of the event. The parents thank the teacher for handling the situation well and for helping their child.

Thanks for the trip to fantasy-land, Bleesed. I really enjoyed this one.

i'd like to add another edge to the reality of the abortion one.

1973 reality: Mary gets a ride down to the free clinic from her friend and gets an abortion without notifying anyone. Nobody leaves town, because nobody finds out.

    Well alrighty then...............

It was just to show how times have changed in 30+ years. And it WAS that simple back then. Things were done that way and when it was settled, it was settled. Nowadays, people are too crazy to go the simple route. So I think it WAS very true...........But again, I was doing it for fun too! :D

nope, 86. There were 744,600 abortions in 1973, and since the courts had just taken away anti-abortion legislation in January of that year, its not hard to imagine that they were pretty much readily available.

Ah, yes...1973. What a wonderful time. Let's see, we were hightailing it out of a tiny country in SE Asia called Viet Nam. The fall of Saigon was about that time wasn't it? And then there was Watergate. Never before had the American public had so much reason to doubt its leaders. And who could forget Nixon's "I am not a crook." of course, everyone knew he was a crook, and he supplied the tapes to prove it. A president resigning in disgrace; that's the simple life. And to think, it was barely more than a decade before that Kennedy was giving his "ask not what your country can do for you..." speech.

Ah yes, the simple life. I was around then and going to school. It was about that time that you had to start worrying about weapons in school because anyone who wanted to bring one could. And there were quite a few knives floating around. Most of them were not there to do throwing tricks with. I saw one kid going after another with a 2x4 with nails sticking out of it. Administrators stayed in their offices, oblivious to the stuff that went on in the schools. I guess that was simple for them.

Ah, the good old days. Some of us miss them so much, we try to repeat them. We're back in a go-nowhere war with no plan for ever getting out of it. Corrupt, incompetent government officials; althought the dismantling of the Constitution is a new twist. Yes, bring back those good ol' days, and Que sera, sera :p

    Cheers,

That was a couple of years down the road from '73. I bought my first new car in '73. I had been working construction for a couple of years and bought the last Mustang Mach 1 the dealership could get me in Sept. I was not olde enough for my license yet but I had my dream car since they salesmen had warned me the '74 model was going to suck. The only bad thing was the jump in gas prices with a 10 mpg 351CJ gas hog. I could never find a road straight enough and lond enough to open her up, but it was somewhere over 135 as the speedo stopped registering at 120 but the hashes went to 160.

The good old days ... wonder how I survived them.

Maybe someone who likes to look things up on the internet can clear up when the war ended (hint, Clif  ) It couldn't have been too long after 1973 because I remember going out to the carport to honk the horn in my Dad's '65 Falcon in celebration of the war being over. There were lot of horns going off all at the same time. (Back then everyone got the news from 6:30 to 7:00 pm est from Walter Cronkite; no round the clock news.) Anyway, I was pre-adolescent and we moved out of that house in 1975. Nixon hadn't resigned yet. Regardless, the point that the "good ol' days" were not that different from today is unaffected by the exact date that the war ended. BTW, in 1973, the 1950's were "the good ol' days."
