Seeing more and more development in the area of voice assistants, so curious as to how many are using one (or more) and for what?
It is the child in me but I used to like requesting Alexa to fart, and she did with a variety, last year they wanted me to buy a package of fart sounds, and I was too cheap to buy it. Not as fun asking her to fart in other folks homes anymore.
Both. Alexa in the kitchen and Google in the bathrooms. When I made the choice Google could call out and Alexa could not, so any fall in the bathroom could have been followed by a call for help if needed. Alexa does the shopping lists and both play music although Amazon Prime gives better music choices.
We use Alexa to turn lights on/off and to play music in different rooms. Not a life changer but simplifies some task.
We use Alexa for smart home devices and listening to music. I was using a samsung smartthings for a hub, but we just use Alexa app now for smart hub. My google pixel phone has some of the same skills as Google Nest so I can say that Google can answer questions more in depth.
I received an Alexa as a gift from a family member. I didn't want it so I waited a respectable amount of time and then told the person that I couldn't figure it out and gave it back.
Eventually, they will murder you in your sleep. We've done well as a society without stuff like this.
I find "Smart TV's" even creepier. They have a camera and mic built in to them that watches and listens to you 24/7, possibly in some of the most private areas of your home. You have absolutely no idea where this live video feed is going, and (assuming it isn't hacked), I can't help but suspect that buried in the fine print of page 481 of your EULA, it deftly describes in "legaleze" that they can use it for "research". That is another way of saying "unfettered access". I'm not signing away my Fourth Amendment Right to privacy just so I can talk to my TV instead of using a hand remote! I'll go back to VHS tapes/DVD's and standard NTSC television before I ever let one of those things in my house!
Soooo....a follow-up question. Those who are adamant about not using a Google Home or Amazon Alexa smart speaker...or smart TV - do you have and use an account on FaceBook, Instagram or Twitter?
My Wife does Facebook, I vowed to die without one, But my Wife is the IT Director for a good sized operation, I would hope she has all kinds of security that I am unaware of.
