    ...to go green:

My lawn mower died again this summer. Last year when this happened I just got it fixed for about half of what it cost to buy the thing. I decided to get something to replace it. Got on the net, did the research. I decided I could afford to invest in an electric mower. I learned from one internet source that you spend about $5.00 per year in electricity running an electric mower. Heck, I spend more than that filling the gas can for the old mower once.

I bought a Homelite 12 amp. electric mower from Home Depot in Garner. (Lowe's doesn't have any.) I've been very happy with it. It's quieter than a gas mower. You don't have to change oil or mess with gas. It's much cleaner, better for the environment. It cuts tall grass or wet grass as well as a power mower. It mulches or discharges the clippings out the side, and you can buy an optional bag for bagging the clippings if you want. The only problem is the electic cord. At first, I had my HBFF manage the cord while I pushed the mower (a romantic togetherness activity). But after a couple of times around the yard, I got used to having the cord there, and it's no big deal now, and I do it all by myself.

I live in a subdivision and have a small yard. I can reach everywhere in my yard with a 100 ft. cord. Of course, for those of you who have big yards, this option doesn't make much sense. But I'm happy with it, and a little greener.
