I have been hearing disturbing things from some of the kids at Cleveland Middle School and Cleveland HS that a teacher was arrested and children are being questioned about inappropriate touching. Was wondering if anyone else has heard anything along these lines, there are too many children saying things to have it be completely not true, and I'm wondering why the school has not notified parents if this is true. My child was once one of this teacher's students so I am very concerned. If it turns out to be true, it really makes me nauseous that our children have been exposed to yet another predator by our county school system. Anyone hearing anything?
I would think if it was true, you could find the teacher on the Arrest Reports for Jo.Co. on this site.
I think it would be quite possible that the teacher was not actually arrested but escorted from the building by police? I am not sure what procedures would have been for asking a teacher to leave if an investigation was ongoing?
Whether any of this is true or not, I don't understand why people blame the "school system" for these incidents. Every employee goes through a back ground check, and if there is no criminal record, they can be hired. Is the county supposed to foresee one of these pervs doing something like this? Pedophiles are good at what they do. Surely they aren't saying, "hey, I'm a pedophile, hire me!" and the school system is hiring them anyway or "I'm touching kids inappropriately, fire me!" It is disgusting and tragic, but until the school system knows someone is doing wrong, how can they be responsible? The responsible person is the pedophile. As we've seen all too often, once the pedophile is found out, they are investigated and arrested. I also think we need to be talking to our children about these things too. Many parents want to protect their children's innocence for as long as possible by not talking to them, but educating them about bad people in world is part of that protection. It helps keep them from being vulnerable to a predator. Statistically, most pedophiles prey on already vulnerable children who are in need of attention for one reason or another. If this story is true, I hope the investigation allows the authorities to arrest and prosecute the sicko, but I don't blame the county school system. '
As far as I know, it happened at Cleveland High School. My daughter and son were in his class. I was told by my daughter it was due to inappropriate touching accusations made by another student. However, you never know. School did NOT send a notice saying anything about reasons for going away. Just being reassigned to another school I believe is what was written. Not sure, threw out the paper. I'm sorry but I'm not buying that as it would be odd for a teacher to be there one day & all of a sudden gone the next w/out notification to students about possibly leaving. However, I don't know the story, nor do my kids. Lots of hearsay gets spread around the high school level. Just wish the schools would kind of tell the truth as to prevent(maybe) possible rumors. I told my daughter not to listen to anything kids are saying that he hasn't been arrested to my knowledge or anything like that. I said we'll probably never know the real story. They will be having a substitute science teacher until they find a replacement it says. Just sad all the way around. Stephanie-- mom to 7 (10 tomorrow!!!)
This is why I get frustrated with the school system. Reassignment is how I have seen situations like this get handled over and over again-->The next school/student body will have no knowledge of anything regarding previous situation. Good luck to the next batch of students.
We must have very different experiences then, because I have never seen anyone accused of pedophilia be transferred to another school! What I have seen are teachers transfer abruptly for personal reasons and rumors abound that pedophilia was the reason when it definitely wasn't. I've also seen staff members who were guilty, be dismissed immediately, arrested and sent to jail. I respect your opinion, because it is based on your experience, but again, my experience has been quite the opposite.
Who's stringing people up? Just concerned about some rather heavy events and allegations that some of the kids, quite a few actually, and from two different schools, were discussing. No names of adults were mentioned publicly. And I'm not asking questions later, I'm asking them now.
this is what I mean, you just assume the person is guilty of something. how do you know what the reassignment school knows? how do you know there is anything to know? why would you react to rumors? I hate rumors. What would you want the school system to do, basing their information on rumors? Not investigate? I absolutely believe questions should be asked when it's appropriate (meaning the school system has completed an investigation and facts have been proven to inappropriateness). And I also believe its not anyone elses business as to these goings on, while they are going on (meaning the investigation). And I certainly don't believe the school owes all the parents an explanation. Those directly or indirectly involved, yes, but not ever single person in the school.
Look, obviously some things can't, shouldn't be discussed on a public forum for legal reasons. So I am just going to tell you that I am very comfortable with my statements, and since this teacher was one of my child's former teachers I have every right to be concerned and asking questions. I wanted to know if anyone else had heard anything regarding this and obviously there was.
I'm not saying it's not true, but there is a difference between knowing and hearing. And you did accuse when you said in your first post that too many people are talking for it not to be somewhat true. If the teacher is being accused of something formally, he/she would not be getting transferred, but put on leave until it's sorted out. I've seen a teacher leave abruptly for completely personal reasons and have teens speculate that he was with a student. That speculation turned into rumor which turned into alleged fact among the parents and students. When you hear a rumor, it's just best to discuss it with your child and wait for the facts to come out. Not post it on a public forum. Your initial question was whether or not anyone had heard anything. You stated in that post that many people were talking about it, so naturally people on a community forum would have "heard" the rumor too. You have every right to be concerned, but at least wait for some facts to come out before perpetuating the rumors and blaming the school system.
Of course you have cause for concern. You ask your child "did this teacher touch you inappropriately?" answer 'yes'...contact school administrators. answer 'no'...drive through please. No need for all this speculation and more rumor spreading. Gosh, I don't know about you, but I got enough going on not to force myself into a situation based upon rumors. AND even if this teacher does end up being charged/dismissed/pitchforked to death, if my kids weren't directly involved (meaning part of the trial) then I would not have a thing to do with it. period. but that's just me.
As I previously stated, I know enough that it concerns me, greatly. And I did not ever say that "naturally people on a community forum would have heard the rumor too". Quit putting words in my mouth. I asked if anyone had heard anything regarding this issue. And guess what?! There was!
