Does this concern anyone else? Our 3rd principal in 4 years? I understand why Mr. Taylor is the best choice for Smithfield High but I hate to see him leave. Anyone else that feels like the school needs a stable, good leader please join me in letting Ed Croom know, edcroom@johnston.k12.nc.us

I like Mr. Taylor. I wonder why the principal keeps changing there.

    Not to worry!

This is our first year at Dixon Road Elementary. My son is in the second grade and he previously attended West View Elementary for Kindergarten & 1st Grade. We were not getting the help nor the tools needed to help our son excel. So we decided to place him at Dixon on a referral from a teacher at Dixon. We couldn't be prouder of our son's progress and the dedication of the staff & teachers at Dixon. The staff has been most helpful with our son's progress this year. They have provided the educational tools needed for our son success this year. Mr. Taylor will be missed but I have the confidence in the staff behind Mr. Taylor that Dixon Road Elementary will have many successful years to come!

I agree with Melburm. They have a great staff. I do hope he brings in someone that the staff, students, and parents will like and respect as much as they did Mr. Taylor, and not go backwards to where things were before Mr. Taylor.

Does anyone know who the replacement is yet? They were supposed to announce it a special board meeting today. Anyone there or know someone who was?

Due to budget concerns, the Johnston County School Board may delay the opening of two new high schools next year. Corinth Holders High and Cleveland High are currently scheduled to open in August 2010. But “due to the unsettled nature of the budget” the school board announced Thursday following a special session they may delay the opening of the two new high schools until August 2011. The delay would save $2.6 million that could be used to stabilize the jobs for current employees, according to school officials. As a result of the possible delay, no principals were named to replace Anne Meredith at Smithfield Middle and Ross Renfrow at North Johnston High, who were named recently as the new principals at Corinth and Cleveland. The school board did name Dawn Alligood, the current assistant principal at Clayton High, the new principal at Dixon Road Elementary. She will replace Michael Taylor when he transfers to SSS High as principal in July. Also, Dee Edmundson, the current principal at Wilson’s Mills Elementary, will become the Director for Title I Instruction beginning July 1. Tamara Barbour, the current principal at Benson Elementary, will become principal at Wilson’s Mills Elementary. No replacement for Ms. Barbour has yet been named.

Yes- a little anxious. Just want it to be a good person after two years of not so good before Taylor came. I know nothing about the person named. Anyone else know something?
