I enjoy going antique hunting and am always on the lookout for that one thing that strikes me as a gotta have it. A few weeks ago, I spent a Saturday afternoon in Selma going from shop to shop. Afterwards, I was talking to my husband and said, just about every shop had the same stuff, there wasn't one shop that drew me in over the other so how is it they can stay in business when everyone has the same thing and they want an outrageous price. Yesterday, I drove on down to Fuquay - I think I was in the old part of town and found this antique store. I thought Selma antique stores were high on prices until I walked into this place. They had these cute little kitchen type chairs that were caned - nice but certainly not worth $225 each. I'm always on the lookout for pottery, linens, vintage blue/white plates and saw several at the shop. One plate was priced at $325. Now I do realize these items are old but I also realize that it is only worth $325 to the person who is willing to pay that much. Does anyone have any ideas where to go to spend the afternoon antique shopping (or just looking)? (I've been to the flea market, Thieves Market, Selma, FQ.) Thanks.

If you don't mind driving to Raleigh and Durham we go to several places:

In and around this area in Durham is wonderful: http://www.historicbrightleaf.com/

In and around the Farmer's Market in Raleigh is good but when twilight starts one might to hit the road.

    Have fun,
    Sherry

"Downtown" Pittsboro has an eclectic mixture of stores for antiques and art.

okay! I almost hate to do this, but here goes, there is a place called Gales old and new. OMG that place has some of the best stuff. me and my oldest love to go there and spend a good hour or so just looking, she always buys some crazy old jewlery and beads, i like the plates and table covers and they always have some kind of furniture. any way some things are pricey but for the most part it is a great time! I did buy an original home interiors piece ( a part of a set i already had)the piece i had i paid $200.00 for brand new and I got the other piece at Gales for $18.00 now i have the set yeah! i know shut up and give me directions. lol lol .
head into Smithfield from cleveland school rd. onto main st. make your second leagle left and Gales is on the corner right beside the post office.
    good luck to all
let me know how it goes.
they are closed on Wed. and Sun.

Look up Cameron, NC, its an old town and thrives on antique stores and twice a year they have antique street fair with over 300 vendors. if you go out Rt. 1, its about 15 miles the other side of Sanford. there are atleast 10 antique stores, and a tea room and a soda-shoppe for lunch. They just had their winter open house yesterday and I rode down with my in-laws, it was a nice day. after we finished in Cameron, we went down the road a bit further to Southern Pines and walked around there, very pretty downtown area!
