My neighbor and I recently starting walking/jogging. I used to do this back home and had built up to 3 miles and did some 5K races. Are there any in the area to do in the fall or early winter? Any good places to run without getting hit by a car?

    In your subdivision?
Garner park? (Hwy 50 headed towards Garner it will be on the right)
    Clemmons State Park?
At a school that has a track?

Lake Benson. If you are up for a trek to Raleigh, Lake Lynn and Shelly Lake are nice.

Oh, I thought you meant drugs or something.

One thing I like about Clayton is that there are sidewalks everywhere. I assume that all the developers are required to put sidewalks in whenever they build houses or businesses, because they always do. It makes it nice for those of us who like to walk (or run or bike, whatever).

If ther's a great place to run close by, I haven't found it. If you can find a new subdivision under construction, you can avoid traffic. Lake Benson is OK if you don't mind running loops. If you wan't to log any big miles you'll need to head to Umstead Park---not cheap with the price of gas these days.

The Old Reliable Run is a 10k in downtown Raleigh in November. It also features a 5k. The Dalmation Dash is in December at Briar creek. It's a 5 miler and benefits fallen fire fighters.

    Good Luck and keep going.

Clemmons State Forest has some good trails.

I just read in the Garner Parks and Rec. bulletin that they have a running club and a 5K some time this fall.

There is also a list of the parks and how long the trails are (see page 25)

    Here are the details....
