The large fencing companies are so expensive and I was wondering if anyone can suggest someone who may do it on the side but still does good work.

You usually get what you pay for! Brennan's is the best in the area by far.

I am also looking to get information about fencing in my back yard, which is between 1/2 and 3/4 acres. I already have a split rail fence that was done by a non-professional 15 years ago and it's in really bad shape. I'm looking to have it replaced with 6 ft tall black chain link. Any ideas how much something like that would run (from someone who's had a similar area done)? There are currently 69 posts that are 8 feet apart each. So I'm guessing 156ish linear feet of fencing. I looked online but really don't want to waste someone's time coming out for a free estimate if it's going to be so expensive that there's no way I could afford it. And I don't suppose any place does financing??

Any information you all could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Math Sounds Off

69 posts with 8 feet of fencing between sounds like much more than 156 linear feet...roughly, 10 posts should give you 80 feet thus 20 would give you 160...That said, you could call and ask what their price is per linear foot of 6' tall black chain link (plus gate or gates if any) and calculate out a rough price...I have been looking at fences as well and as I recall, chain link was less expensive than many of the other styles...

    69 x 8 = 552

Going by rough estimates, that would be about 150' in the back, and 150' on each side, with 50' in the front on either side of the house (assuming your house is 50' wide). That would equate to 22,500 sq ft of fenced in area, or about half an acre.

Here is a breakdown of materials for a rough estimate based on those and some other assumptions (such as 1 x 3' gate) from an online calculator.

Total footage = 550 feet (plus gates, if any) with posts spaced a maximum of 10.00' apart.
    550' - 6' high x 11-1/2ga. chain link fabric (2-1/4x11-1/2x72GAW), 50' roll $1,509.75
    567' - 1-3/8'' x 21' sw. .065 galv. $562.95
    54 - 2'' x 8' galv. .065 wall cut post $639.90
    300 - tie wire 2'' aluminum pig-tail 9ga. (6-1/2'') - Bag of 100 $29.97
    300 - tie wire 1-5/8'' aluminum pig-tail 9 ga. (6'') - Bag of 100 $23.58
    54 - 2'' x 1-3/8'' aluminum loop cap $64.26
    6 - 2 1/2'' x 8'6'' galv. .065 wall cut post $96.48
    6 - post cap 2-1/2'' aluminum acorn $4.68
    1 - 6' H. X 3' W. residential chain link swing gate 11-1/2 ga. $94.64
    2 - male strap hinge galv. fits 2-1/2'' O.D. $3.80
    2 - female strap hinge galv. fits 1-3/8'' O.D. $1.80
    2 - carriage bolt/hex. nut 3/8'' x 3'' $1.02
    2 - carriage bolt/hex. nut 3/8'' x 2'' $0.84
    1 - 1-3/8'' fork clamp $1.02
    1 - 2-1/2'' fork $1.31
    2 - carriage bolt/hex. nut 5/16'' x 1-1/4'' $0.36
    2 - brace band 2-1/2'' flat 12 ga. x 3/4'' $1.18
    2 - rail end cup 1-3/8'' aluminum heavy $1.24
    2 - 3/16'' x 5/8'' wide x 72'' long tension bar $7.96
    10 - tension band 2-1/2'' flat 14 ga. x 3/4'' $4.80
    12 - carriage bolt/hex. nut 5/16'' x 1-1/4'' $2.16
Your total is $3,053.70 for materials

Probably another $2000 or so for labor, but that is just a guess, and it could be higher.

Allstar Fence Co. in Clayton installed almost 500 feet of 5 foot black chain link fencing for us. We are very pleased with their work. They were almost half the cost of the other two quotes we got using the same materials! Good luck!!

Wow... I don't know what kind of "new math" I was using with the original estimate I posted... You're all right. Over 550 feet is what it'll be. I SO appreciate your feedback, and your price list, jesse82nc, is fantastic! I will call Allstar, and I know this is going to be an enormous fencing job, but it's going to have to be done eventually. I'm trying to hold out on the old fence as long as possible and also trying to avoid having to fence only a smaller section of the yard due to cost. Any other info you have is welcome!

Must have been that common core math ;) lol jk. If price is such an issue, might want to look at 6' welded wire instead. I have about the same amount of fencing as you, and I was quoted about $2200 for 6' welded wire for materials and labor.
