We are visiting DC and taking in a concert and need advice. Where in northern virginia should we stay that is close to a metro station and just south of dc and is a nice place to stay. (ie not the ghetto) Thanks

Where is the concert? Is it downtown? If so, the best place would be Alexandria. There's a couple metro stops in the city (short cab ride or drive). Old Town would be the best area. There's a Holiday Inn in the historic district that's right on the river and you can see DC up from it. Awesome view. It's fairly pricey though, as with almost anywhere in NoVA.

If you're driving up and want to save some money on hotel, stay around Woodbridge/Dumfries and then drive up into Springfield/Alexandria and jump on the Metro from there. The hotels should be a bit cheaper around there.

    Here's Metro's map...

Ahhh.. FFX... my old stomping grounds... Plenty of nice places to stay around there but didn't think she wanted to go that far east (I know.. only about 10 miles.. but.. 30-45 mins :) ). DC just was ranked #2 in the nation with the worst traffic just barely after NYC. One of the few things I don't miss.

I agree and it shouldn't be as expensive either. Fairfax is more centrally located for concert venues too. The parkway off of 95 is a pain. It takes you on a bunch of side streets and if you miss the signs, you're done and unless you're from there, I hope you have a GPS. They may have fixed it since I've been up there last. You'd be better off taking 123 through Occoquan. Straight shot into Fairfax.

With Alexandria/Springfield.. they'll get to go through the mixing bowl. Everyone should do that atleast once.

All this is making me want to go up there and visit...

That's funny, the MCI center was "new" when I moved away. Sorry I can't help, I'm from the Maryland side of things (Annapolis) and not familiar about places to stay in No. VA. Enjoy your trip.
