My dad was in the Army in Germany 1963-4. If my mom would have stayed 4 more months i would have been born there.

My mom and her family came over when my mom was a pre-teen. We're going for a visit next summer.

I'm originaly from Germany but have lived here now for over 25 years.
    Still miss the

  10. My grandfather came from Germany...

My grandfather came from Germany and settled in Bronx, New York. The surname is Baack. He did not know any English when he came here. He fought for the US in World War I and was shot in the leg. He wore a leg brace and special shoe the rest of his life. His papers said he and his father were born in Lehe, Germany. I was looking for German Food and thought I found some stores in Raleigh. I'll check again. Take care. :cool:8)

Oh yeah, you can't get really good, authentic German food here. My grandmother lives in a predominantly German area in Philly, so you can get some mean food there. I miss that. We gave her money for Christmas to come down and visit for a few weeks, but she's going back to German for a few months this summer first. Now I'm hungry.

Lived in Stuttgart for 3 years and LOVED it!! Fresh Brotchen was the best. Too many dishes to name that I liked. Loved the people and the atmosphere over there. Take the U-bahn just about anywhere. Used to be fluent in German but probably can't even understand but bits and pieces any more b/c it's been so long. The Ocktoberfest w/ all the foods really was a site to behold. Okay, now I need to go to a German restaurant--LOL.

Isn't there a German pastry shop/restaurant in Selma? I'm not German (well, a little bit way back in the bloodline) but I did make some Brats on the grill the other night. :) Willkommen to 4042!

I know what you mean, there are a lot of online sites that one can order german foods etc. from but it's really expensive, everytime I make the mistake of looking there I end up hungry and wanting at least one of everything they got there...

    Thank you!
The one in Selma is called Edelweiss Bakery or something like that.I have had several german friends of mine go there and they were unfortunatley dissapointed. It's not actually operated by someone from germany and I think that can make the difference.
Thanks anyways for your tip !
