Anyone have kids w/ the flu??

Just curious if flu has hit anyone else. My son tested positive this morning for the flu. He's 8 and goes to Westview. Doc said he's out completely for the week! Yikes. We've tried to "decontaminate" the house and the whole 9 yards. Moved him to our designated "sick room" in this house. Doctor said it would be 24 hours to know if any of the rest of us will get it. Stinks as I'm one of those people who can NOT get the flu shot. Yep, allergic to eggs & chicken. Just wondering if anyone else has kids w/ the flu. This was the first I've heard of anyone having it around here. My family keeps the medical profession in business---LOL. He's resting now. I just feel so bad b/c there is just nothing you can do to make it better but wade it out. Poor kid. This means he misses the class Christmas Party. I know I will never hear the end of that one. So, if you're reading this, please send some good vibes his way. Thanks.

Haven't heard of anyone I know having it yet, but most people I know do get the flu shot. Sucks to be allergic to eggs I bet!

We are dealing with Respiratory Synical Virus (RSV) right now, three with it including my 13 week old.

 

Yes, over a week ago I had the flu for almost two weeks. No one else in the family got it, which was strange. Decided that I must have picked it up at one of the hospitals or doctors offices we have been visiting recently. It was bad. Had all the normal things around me, plastic bowl, towels, paper towels, direct route to the bathroom, drank loads of orange juice, ice cream, etc. After about four days I was able to start keeping down some broth and crackers. I am still not up to par but soooo much better. Mostly slept on the couch because I would get all stuffed up lying in bed.

You'll know when he is getting better by what he starts asking for to eat. My first food was a 1/4 lber, fries and a shake. Ate it quickly, it was good. Didn't stay down long but at least I was craving food again.

I'm an idiot for not getting a flu shot!!!

Nope, fact, since the other two in the house are the ones with different illnesses. One would think the immune system would be lower in them than me.

Getting over pneumonia myself. They gave me a pneumonia shot at the hospital, but from now on, I will get a booster every five years on it. Then dealt with pleurisy for a few days. I usually get a flu shot. Seems that the respiratory illnesses have just exploded in the past month. However, my family has kept a cold since October.

For those who are allergic to eggs, researchers are hard at work (from what I read) developing alternative means of developing vaccine that doesn't require egg incubation.

Hope those already sick, get well quickly and those who aren't, can stay healthy...especially for the holidays.

 

I had the flu over Thanksgiving and what remains is lingering in the lungs.

 

I've also got some sort of creeping crud, so far it's just the chest and throat, although this is the worst sore throat I've ever had, my ears even hurt, and I sound like I'm about to cough up a lung. Can barely swallow anything. Not sure how much longer I should wait before going to the doc. Friends have got strep, which I have never had to my knowledge.

We may have given it to you, but if so, it only lasted one night. My Kindergartener was puking all Friday night and was better by Saturday. My 2nd grader was puking all Sunday night and was better by Monday. My 7th grader was Tuesday night and was better by Wednesday. I was sure my son or I would be on Thursday, but, so far, so good.

 

kdc--go to doc. Sounds like strep. Not a professional here by any means--LOL. Just deal w/ strep A LOT in this house for obvious reasons. I used to get it all the time until I had my tonsils removed at age 27. Go to doc. Longer you wait, the worse it gets. I do hope you get better soon. Stinks to be sick over the holidays. No flu here, never had and no one in my family has ever had and none of us has ever gotten the flu shot either. But, this is a large (but) lol, everyone that I have known that has gotten the flu also had the flu shot. Weird huh.
My daughter had a stomach thing going on two weeks ago, got sick on Saturday night one time and was fine and then again on Monday night and was fine the next day, and then the following Saturday she was sick all darn day on both ends, but was fine on Sunday, then come Tuesday the school calls and said she has a ear ache...so she had a ruff week and I never caught what she had and neither did anyone else around us. Thank god.

PS A very good tip for a upset stomach and works wonders for me..but my daughter can't swallow pills yet..but Ginger pills all natural, you can get them from CVS. I ate something yesterday and it upset my stomach something bad, and took one and with in the hour I was fine. I love it.

 

I don't know what I have! Started as the sniffles and a itching throat. Now..congestion in the chest, hacking, SORE throat, and I feel like poo!

 

Sounds similar to what I have. :? I still can't decide whether to go to the doc, not running much of a fever, only about 99, don't think it's strep then. I'm probably going to try to see Dr. Joan tomorrow if I'm not better by then. It was a LONG night. :evil:

You"all go to CVS Minute Clinic..,,, one stop deal, get looked at right away and can wait while they despense your RX. Don't even have to miss work to do that...

 

The minute clinic is quite ingenius. Wish I'd thought of that.

DF calls just now on the way back from the hunting cabin and says he feels like poo. Sore throat, a bit achey, itchy face, sinus' draining. Guess he got it too. :-(

 

Okay, maybe we should just have one big quarantine party--LOL. It is that time of year...more people in tight spaces. Hits everyone at some point in time I'm guessing. On the bright side, most that have smoething happening now will be much better by Christmas & New Years! Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks and do get well soon. I wish everyone a speedy recovery.

Does the Minute Clinic accept the State Health Plan? I really don't want this mess to make me miss work! I had a flu shot...I have had strep before and it doesn't feel like that. It seems to be more like a bronchitis type thing.

 

Oh no, I have all of this minus the sore throat, so far. It all hit me like ton of bricks this morning. Feeling run down, stuffy nose, full sinuses - not draining yet. Last night at DH's Christmas party my ears kept going haywire. They would clog up where I could hardly hear and then open back up, clog up and sound like cotton and air (hard to explain) in my ears, open up... over and over again for hours. Now I know why. Darned head cold, and right before Christmas. :-(

Hope you DF feels better soon, and you don't get it.
