So at the end of the school year, Mini Me volunteered me to take home two guppies, and a few small snails from one of the classroom tanks to add to our large tank. No big deal, I love fish.

Well, snails are asexual, and they reproduce at a very rapid rate. At last count, from what I could see, there were at least 40 of these things in my tank. I'm not kidding.

So, if you have a fish tank, goldfish, tropical, whatever (not saltwater) and need some side/bottom cleaners, PLEASE let me know. I need to get some of these critters outta my tank. They are pretty tiny, and I haven't seen one get any bigger than a penny, and that's pushing it.

PLEASE take some of these snails!!!

Ohhhh I have a 30 gallon fish tank and I had to feed my algea eater because there was not enough algea, and the poor thing died anyway. So I would love to try snails this time.... But I fly out in the morning for a week. If you have any when I get back I would love to get some!!!

    Thanks

Hey Jennifer, we have a 50 gallon tank and have never tried snails in it. If you want to get some out, i will give it a try if it is ok with DH - he is the fish man in the house. i'll give you a call this evening after i talk to him.

I tried an algae eater but the other fish picked on him too much. I wonder if they'd leave a snail alone ...

ljk, I am sure there will be plenty when you get home. Just let me know when you wanna come get them.

Kaci, you know where I live girl. You won't need more than 4 or 5 of them because they are frisky little buggers, they'll populate soon enough.

Elims, probably so. Are your fish agressive by nature? Either way, the only thing I've ever heard of eating the snails are the very large algae eaters.

I can't help you out with taking any snails Jen... but I know when I had a single little Beta in a small fish bowl, I used to keep a snail with him to keep the bowl and rocks clean. It worked out great and the water stayed cleaner a little longer than without the snails presence.

That sounds pretty cool, tassy! I have been wanting to get the kiddo a beta fish for a while and have one at work too. Since those don't need a tank & pump & this & that... slap a snail in there and COOL! Oh and feed it too.

Let me see and I might be taking 2 snails off your hands Jen. :)

We bought 3 snails at Petsmart to help keep our tank clean...we have goldfish in a 30 or 40 gallon tank (hubby does al the fish care). The snails all died and I was traumatized (sp). Any idea why?? If they would die again right off I would love to have some more!

Maybe the amonia was too much for them PG? I moved some of these into kiddo's goldfish tank, and they did fine.

    PLEASE come get some, lol

LOL I hear ya'! I will have squire take a water sample today or tomorrow to that place at 4042 to see how it is. They are great, by the way! Maybe I'll be able to get a few snails from you this weekend...that would be cool!

If you have goldfish, there isn't much you can do about amoinia in the water. That's just what they do, lol.

    Just let me know. :)

Squire said no after the others died so quickly! :( I know nothing about fish tanks so I'll just have to take his word on it.

I believe there actually is something you can buy to put in the water to kill them off, at least there used to be. We made the mistake of putting some in a tank a long time ago, those things breed like rabbits!

Yup, they do. There is a chemical you can use to dispatch of the critters, but you have to be careful and not upset the tank's (water) balance as well.

    How's it goin, Jen?

Most of the time, per stores will take them off your hands. Try that fish store in peddler's village...they are really nice!

Aquatica? Does he have any fresh-water tanks? I spend so much time looking at the bottom-dweller stuff, I don't pay attention to much else, lol.
