Anyone use Aetna health insurance?

I'm currently paying a ton of money to insure myself and my children through BCBS. I received a letter from Aetna wanting to give me an insurance quote, offering "quality coverage, additional benefits, and affordability."

The letter sounds great until the fine print's very last line... "These plans are medically underwritten and you may be declined coverage in accordance with your health condition."

I've heard stories of insurance companies dropping customers as health bills pile up. I think I saw a news story where a woman with cancer was suddenly dropped by her insurance.

Does anyone have Aetna, or past exerperience with them? I'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

My ex at one time had Aetna for the kids, and it was a pain in the butt. Seemed like everytime we turned around we had to call them to explain to them that they were the primary insurance. I also know that a couple of times our doctors had some problems with them in regards to claims. I don't know if it was because of our situation that we had problems or not. Others might have had a great experience with them. We just didn't.

Maybe 2 years ago, give or take. He changes jobs like one changes underwear so his insurance changes all the time.

I've had Aetna for more than 10 years through my last 2 employers.

I do have the plane with hospilization, dental and vision and I've had only a good experience.

We've had Aetna for the past four or five years and been pretty happy. We have a pretty top tier plan, so just about everything is covered in full.

I think the most important thing is to have doctors that will be your advocate. Aetna didn't want to cover my daughter going to a pediatric phlabotomist (sp?) when techs from both Lab Corp and Quest couldn't get a vein to draw blood needed for some tests. Our pediatrician called and said that if they didn't cover the specialist he would just have her admitted to the hospital and order that she stay until the results of the tests came back and were read. Obviously they sent us right over to the specialist, who got the blood from her tiny vein on the first try, even with all the bruising left by the previous techs.

Well, I am sure my ex got the cheapest plan he could. It is required he keep insurance on the kids, so that might have been our problem. Bad part is, we also have the same problem with United Health Care and I forget what other one he had.

I have Aetna for me and my 2 kids. They wouldn't take on my hubby due to a pre existing condition. A little secret....I pay for individual plans for each of us because it was cheaper than doing a family combined plan.

Since it's an individual plan, my co pays are higher than when I worked at a big company. I pay $40.00 for general office visits and $50 for specialists. I also have to pay 20% of the bill for hospital visits.

My daughters face started to swell once and I took her to the emergency room. 3 different doctors came in and felt her face then prescribed antibiotic. No tests were done, no X rays. We had to pay $998.00 to wait in an ER room for 3 people to poke around her neck and leave.

I have a high deductible to keep the monthly cost down but that bill shocked the heck outta me. Overall they have been a good company to deal with for general office visits.

    Good Luck!

Talk to your doctor's billing department, get their opinion. Insurance companies change all the time, and ones that may have been easy to deal with in the past may have changed. Your physician will know, and if they have become difficult, they may have dropped them. We used to take all comers where I work, but have dropped some providers recently. We most likely dropped them as reimbursements are getting smaller, and sometimes don't cover the cost of services. I don't know who, insurance does not effect me in my job.
We have BCBS where I work, and have never had any problems.
