I have just been given a bushel of apples...it only took two apples to make a pie! (These are HUGE crispin apples from WV. Has anybody every frozen apples? Any suggestions? I would love to have them to pull out and cook all winter for fried apples, pies, apple crisp, etc.
if you want to freez them you must cook them first.ie... make a pie ,,,freeze it. make crisp and freeze it make a cobbler freeze it.
Not to argue with you there Granola, but you can freeze raw apples with no problems. 8) I've got about a bushel waiting on me that I picked up from my FIL today. Just peel and slice them, put some sugar and some fruit fresh on them, pack in freezer bags and you are good to go. Makes excellent baked apples, apple pies, etc. later on in the winter. My grandmother has done this forever, always turn out great. Good luck!
Maybe you could also consider 'drying' them, like they did in the good old days? Not sure what all it entails, but I'm sure you could google it and find something about it.
Whatcha wanna know?? I was raised up by some women who KNOW how to cook southern style! If I don't know how, then I call 'em and ask, LOL.:jester: Now.............does anyone know what in the world I can do with the bushel of pears I've got? They are delicious! But I am not set up to can them. Haven't tried freezing those. Might have to call my Grandmother and see what to do with them.
THanks! Good to know. I will try it on a few tonight and see how they do. They are absolutely delicious! Best pears I've ever had. Came right out of my FIL's yard and sweet as candy.
