This is in FAYETTEVILLE, if anyone's going that way..... Manna Church has an offer that can’t be refused. Free gas that’s coming just in time for that last summer fling. “The Labor Day weekend is the last hooray for families before school gets in full swing,” said church pastor Michael Fletcher. Gas prices are dropping, but it’s still not cheap to fill up the tank for a trip. Fletcher’s congregation is willing to put up $10,000 toward the fuel giveaway that’s planned for Aug. 28, just in time for the final weekend of summer. The church is offering to pay $1 per gallon up to 10 gallons, Fletcher said. For example, the church would pay $10 for a 20-gallon fuel purchase. “People will think we’re crazy,” Fletcher said. Perhaps they’re crazy, but they want to demonstrate a message. The idea, Fletcher said, is to help people understand the message of the Gospels. Too many churches are preaching a message that says only the truly religious will get to Heaven, he said. Fletcher and Manna Church members take a different approach. “Jesus died for us and that gives us the free gift of eternal life,” Fletcher said. No strings attached, he added. That’s the premise behind the gas giveaway, Fletcher said. Free fuel is available to anyone (except Manna Church members) with no strings attached, Fletcher said. But there are some details that people will need to know, he said. The offer is good that day but only between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and only at two locations: the Kangaroo store at the corner of Skibo and Cliffdale roads and the Kangaroo at the corner of Owen Drive and Boone Trail. There is one condition, Fletcher said. Customers must go inside the store and pay for their gas. A store employee will pump the gas for the customer, Fletcher said. He and church members hope the gesture will not only demonstrate their message but help families enjoy the long holiday weekend. Fletcher said Kangaroo representatives were more than happy to work with the church for the event. http://www.fayobserver.com/article?id=302486
I wonder how many times someones name will be taken in vain that day under those conditions? Most of them by folks caught unaware of the advertising campaign.
