Clayton, N.C. — A masked gunman stole cash from Sandhu's convenience store, 1225 Amelia Church Road, and left in a car stolen from a Garner church shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, Clayton police said.
One employee was present during the robbery, police said. She told police that the robber left in a burgundy 1994 Olds Cutlass vehicle driven by a getaway driver.
Officers found the getaway vehicle abandoned nearby in the parking lot of Parkside Village Apartments, at Guy and Amelia Church roads. Investigators believe the two men then left into another vehicle that had been waiting for them in the apartment complex.
Officers searched the area but did not find the men.
Investigators determined the abandoned car had been stolen earlier Sunday from the parking lot Capital Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1308 U.S. Highway 70 in Garner.
Police described the gunman as a heavy-set man of average height. He was wearing a dark shirt and jeans.
A description of the driver of the getaway vehicle was not available.

We were planning to stop there for gas right after picking the daughter up from Starbucks at 9:35 pm last night, but decided not to...a good thing, apparently!
