I'm really excited because my Grandmother in Law is considering moving to the area soon. As much as I would like for her to move in with us - she doesn't want to. She likes to sleep late and go to bed late and is worried the kids may not let her do that. Although she mostly has good days - she does get a little confused sometimes - so she can't really live on her own. She also needs regular medications - so she would like to be in an assisted living arrangement. It would be nice if the location offered 2 room apartements with a microwave/fridge/sitting area and a separate bedroom. It would also be good if there was a physician associated with the facility. She currently lives in an assisted living center in Colorado - which provides regular activities & meals. They have a physician & a hairdresser on site. Does anyone have any feedback on any of the assisted living centers near Apex, Cary or Garner? Thanks for your Help
This has come up on here pretty recently, try this thread http://www.4042.com/4042forums/showthread.php?t=17278&highlight=assisted+living and if you search assisted living there are more. Good luck and its good that she's still independent, makes things a little easier for all involved.
Thanks bandmom I knew I should have searched before I posted ... seems like you can learn something about everything on this site You folks are great resources
I don't know how much moneythere is but that seems to be the determining factors with thesee places. Some of them are beautiful but unless you actually go there and visit you have no idea. My momwas in one is smithfield and them she moved out on her own because she hated the food and wasn't too fond of some of the people. She was able to take care of herself. She has a small apartment in smithfield now. The first few days of February she fell and was taken to the hospital - I have a life alert kinda thing set up which is wonderful. Thanks Harleygirl!. she has not been back since then because she needed to go to a rehab facility. She is getting out this Saturday and going back to the apt with nursing assistance. At that time we will re-evaluate and possibly puther back into the assisted living in a few months. I think I will loose my mind. Carolina house is very nice but very pricey. - They charge for every little thing. Meadowview is nice but the menu on the wall is only for show and half the stuff walks out the back door rather then gets to the old folks. I have seen it. No matter which one you choose please keep and eye on the medications. i have seen ordr get confused and perscriptions get filled that my mother was never taking. I am a pest and asked for the meds since we paid for them. I recommend that you pop in at different times. If she needs a diabetic diet or low sodium, make sure she is actually getting it. I have had a few try to blow smoke and tell me that a dessery was sugar free when in essence it was the exact same thing everyone else got. You may was a facility that keep wandering patients separate from those that have o mental impairment. People wandering in a room and using the floor as a potty isn't fun. seen that too.
the price is through the roof as in so many of those retirement communities. We have some of the highest prices around.
That $50,000 - $65,000 up front seems a little steep. She want's to spend a couple of years here and then possibly go to Florida for a couple of years to spend time with other family members. It didn't sound like the $50,000 up front fee was refundable if she wanted to move somewhere else later. Maybe I misunderstood? The monthly rate didn't sound bad (just under $2500 per month) - but I'm having a hard time with the up front fees. Maybe it would be OK if she were younger or if she knew this was where she wanted to stay long term ...
