Can you build an attached garage to your home and it not have a door to inside the house? Is there some building code requirement addressing this? I am trying to weigh all my options (selling my house, adding a garage to my current hosue, etc). Becasue of an easement road on the side of my property to the lot behind mine, I don't know if there is enough room to build a detached garage. Heck, there might not even be enough room to do attached, either! Gotta get out there and measure. If I did attached, it would be next to the 2 bedrooms on that end of the house, so no direct access inside the house because it would be weird to put the door in a bedroom. Thanks for any help you can give!
Could you build a hallway on the back of the house leading from another part of the house to the garage?
Call a builder (Jerry Clifton), his architect will come up with a way to build you exactly what you want.
No, the septic tank is right off the back corner of the house there. If that wasn't there, I'd be looking at putting the garage right there instead of on the end. I have a big lot (.96 acre) and a small house (about 1120 sq ft), but the easement and septic/leach field leave me w/ little options, darn it!
Just relocate your septic field. It'll be hard to sell a house with an attached garage with no access from inside :?
Just a question...why are you adding the garage if you are selling? Do other homes in your neighborhood have garages? OK...two questions!
I am trying to decide on either adding the garage or selling. I would not add the garage if I was selling . Sorry if I didn't make that clear. EDIT: forgot the other question. A few of the homes do, but they were mostly added afterwards. Some have those metal carport thingys, but that wouldn't help me. I need storage, not just cover for my car. If it matters, I am in South Plantation (smaller, starter-type homes).
unless you were planning to stay there for a while, I would not go through the expense of adding a garage with no inside access. It will be hard to recoup the investment. Small starter homes are selling pretty well right now, you may be better to sell, and purchase one with a garage PM me if you need more info. PS if you do decide to build a garage, PM DMJMOM, her hubby does them!
