I am the proud owner of a deaf dalmatian and a blind aussie (adopted this week-end) I have started a myspace group for triangle area owners of special needs dogs. Come check us out!
Yes, all dogs are special. But just as parents of human children with special needs....dog parents of special needs can always use the support of someone that knows the challenges of owning a special needs or disabled pet. That is the goal of this group. No offense to someone with a non-handicapped baby!
What about dogs with mental special needs? Seriously, medicated but still crazy? Or is this a just a group for physical problems?
I know when my Elvis was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer, I was so thankful for the various websites that offered support. I learned so much and felt like I could be involved in treatment decisions much more effectively.
What about dogs with mental special needs? Seriously, medicated but still crazy? Or is this a just a group for physical problems? ALL special needs dogs and/or the people who love them are welcome. :grouphug:
I just joined My Space to join this group and they won't let me post anything for a week-maybe that is why we little in the way of new posts?
I forget that my girl is a 'special needs' dog. She has several health problems that prevent her from being "normal" or typical ... inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP) are two of her main issues ... (an intestinal disease and a blood disorder). She's on permanent meds, prescription food (And Nothing But!!!) and only "water biscuits" (ice cubes) as treats ... but otherwise, you'd never know anything was wrong.
yes, I often tell people that my dog's "disabilities" are only a problem for people....they do not know that they are different. And even I forget sometimes...I took them to swim yesterday and the way they romp and splash , It is easy to forget! :iagree:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZWj9IQGJRU Here are my two special needs babies at play! Oh yeah and several people have asked...yes my aussie was one of the ones on CL recently.
It is worth all the money in the world to watch them play like that, isn't it? The first time my shelter dogs were out in the yard it made my heart just about burst. Your babies are super cute!
