My old car finally bit the dust last weekend. Too much money to fix. Does anyone know a place (salvage yard??) that purchases vehicles?

I had a car that died on me and I donated it to the National Kidney Foundation. As long as the car's body and the tires are in good shape they will come and pick the car up, then you can claim the car on your taxes as a deduction.
    Good Luck!

We donated our old car to Kars for Kids, a charity. It was also tax deductable.

Kars For kids picks the car up at your location as well.

What kind of car and what's wrong with it?? (If you know).

I'll buy it from you if the price is right.

The rules changed recently for donating a car- I'm pretty sure you can only deduct the amount equal to the net proceeds that the charity gets for a donated car. Trust me, in many cases they end up with a -0- amount due to towing, storage and auction fees. IF you choose to donate to charity, make sure to ask lots of questions before you agree- otherwise it's possible that no one will benefit (except the towing and auction companies).

If you can haul it, LKQ probably pays more for cars than most scrap places- unless it's a full size pickup/van or a '60's Lincoln or something really heavy. LKQ will still buy it even if they have to pick up, but they pay about 1/2 since they have to pay someone to haul it to their place.

My son's car bit the dust and I called a place named Lizardlick. Even though they are in Wake they came out here. He got 125.00 cash for his car. Don't know the number off hand.

its a 1992 ford explorer, new brakes all the way around (last August), new tie rods (Jan). It was running great, just one of those things...I can't spend any more money on it.

You might want to post it in the classifieds here and on Craig's List. My son recently sold his 95' Chevy Corsica after the transmisson went in it. I listed it in both places for "parts" (he had new tires, also. The AC was "kicking", had a rebuilt motor put in it prior to the transmisson going, and everything else worked fine) He, also, didn't want to put any more money in it. I think he got about $200 for it by listing it for parts. (Which is probably more than a junk yard would have given him..I don't know...but he was happy with that. At least he recouped some of the cost of the new tires!) It's worth a try.
