Just a heads up if anyone is going that way that there is a bad accident right in front of Mcdee's. Kia flipped over a Yukon truck with kids, as far as I know everyone is ok, the kids got a little hurt from what I could see. It's been bad up there ever since they put up those white cones things. Thank you for the heads up - heading out the door now and was going that way - will detour. Hope everyone is OK They need a light there - people are doing crazy things getting around those poles Bound to be a bunch more accidents there with the no driving fools on the road these days.
Your welcome and your right it's gotten bad, I don't know aobut a light or not would work, been having problems up that way for some time. I almost got hit tring to get on to 40 to go to work and someone pulling out of the citco gas station was trying to beat me, man after I stop I got out and told her off..scared the crap out of me for sure. I was lucky, these guys weren't. Sheri
My 2 cents .... They need a barrier in the center so those leaving McDonald's can only go right ... leaving Dairy Queen only right....but a lane so people can turn left off 210 into DQ. Then maybe put a light with left turn lane @ 210/Pleasant Coats where people coming from Dairy Queen can u-turn. Putting a light right there @ McD's is just to close to Pleasant Coats and the ramp to I-40.
I heard a rumor that a light would be going in there, but didn't hear exactly where or when. Being a rumor, it might not even be true, but I hope it is. Those little cone things in front of McDonald's are strange and they seem to confuse a lot of people. I think they might have created even more problems if that could be possible. It is really hard to turn left into Dairy Queen now because there is really no turn lane there anymore.
I know what you mean, and a few of us up there yesterday where talking about that as well. I don't understand why they made the changes they did..I have never seen the problems that they are having now..I think with that wreck yesterday that the Yukon was trying to make a left out of Mcdee's and that is what cause it, I"m not sure. But, not to take a left out of Mcdee's or Dairy Queen is harder on some that don't know they can go around the back of the shell station to get back out, but that may be worth more trouble then people want to deal with. The barriers are coming... read what is written on the road if you have a chance. All of those lines drawn on the road are for islands. The big loser in all of this will be the Citgo, DQ, etc on that side of the road. Unless they buy the land next to them so they can have a cut-thru to Pleasant Coats Rd.
Citgo will get the business of the people coming off the 40 from Wilmington. I thought the person that owns Citgo also owns Shell so if he keeps the prices of both places the same he isn't losing anything.... If he doesn't get the business here, he will get it there!?
so how will /do the people from Wilmington get back on 40? can't turn left...It's absolutely ridiculous up there now...I refuse to get anywhere near it.....I am sure the business owners are ecstatic about the way things currently are.
I think there was an article in the paper some time ago sharing the same person owns both of those gas stations. He invested in property there before I-40 came though and now is reaping from his foresight.
If they are not from the area, they likely won't know they'll have some trouble getting back on 40 until they are exiting the DQ/Citgo - They can make the right onto 210 and IF traffic is favorable, make a left onto Pleasant Coats and wrap around the Shell and come back out - it's a hassle and there's bound to be accidents. The poles that are up now are supposed to deter people from cutting across and being in turn lanes going the wrong way, but EVERYDAY I see someone zoom around the wrong way. . .I drive up and down 210 a good 10 times a day on average. The writing is hard to make out, but it appears it may be for painting lines-arrows. . .which - again people will choose to ignore. That stretch should have been at least two lanes wider in each direction. Very poor planning. Ditto with down by the Food Lion - someone is going to get killed before too long. Shame that has to happen before serious talk about traffic lights starts taking place.
And that my dear, is the question of the century.....it's the perverbial 'cart before the horse' routine. It just blows me away.....put it up just as fast as you can, and figure out how people will get to and from it, later, after a few people's lives have been 'risked'...that's seems to be the mentality these days in the development world
We drove by this mess yesterday. The big Toyota SUV was on it's side in the middle of 210. Hope everyone was ok. I too have seen the near-death zip over to get in to Wendy's. That's a head on whammy waiting to happen ...
I was only up there once to see the mess in the middle but I did not know the details of if you could make a left or right out of the businesses. Sounds like a worser mess than the 40/42. Think they would have learned, huh. Be careful up there then everyone.
