We've had reports of a lot of police activity at the First Citizens bank at 40/42. Apparently it has been robbed and may be part of a string of other robberies that have taken place in the area today (including a gas station and another bank). We'll pass along other information as it becomes availalble.
I just got back from that area and saw the swarm of JoCo sheriff deputies blocking the entrances and all around the building. There must have been at least 5 deputy cars in the First Citizens parking lot. Anyone have details?
They've been there since at least 1:00. When I drove by, they had taped off the area, the lot was full of deputies, and the Curves parking lot had another 4 cop cars there. The press was already there taking pictures  . Hope everyone is ok. The postal delivery person said she was stopped on her route by a police officer asking questions about specific cars she may have seen recently. Frogger
Must have happened around 12:30 or so. i was up on 42 around 12:30 and nothing was going on but as i went down Cleveland School Rd around 12:40 i passed several cops flying with sirens on.
I did....maybe I didn't wait long enough for the page to load. LOL Oops. Nope, you know what I did? I was scrolling the WHOLE page instead of the little news story part. LOL Daaaaaaang.
That isn't the first time that bank has been robbed. Also, Wachovia was robbed approx. 2 years ago. Wachovia is just next door.
We had a silent alarm set off today at work...had several officers to show. We told the operator it was a false alarm but with the activity in the area, they weren't taking any chances. The police officer told me they have had 4 armed robberies in the county in 24 hours. Scotchman at 40/210 was another robbery.
My wife was in the drive thru while it was happening. She noticed everyone making strange facial gestures and using hand signals to communicate. After about ten minutes the teller sent her unprocessed transaction back to her and told her "she would need to go to another branch.....that they were having to close." Glad she did not go into the bank to make her deposit.
Oh my gosh, my mother just called to tell me that she was going to "Aunt Julia's" funeral today so she wouldn't be at work. The elderly woman who died in that fire ^ was my great aunt!! Her brother was my grandfather.
I feel terrible, I didn't know "Aunt Julia's" last name, so I didn't even make the connection and call my mother about it yesterday. Aunt Julia was one of 13 children so, needless to say, that side of my family is HUGE, and I only saw her once a year or so at family reunions. I can't even picture which great aunt she was. My mom said that the way she went is exactly how she would have wanted to go... fast. She also said she wouldn't have wanted a big fuss over her burial either, which is why they are just having a graveside service for her today.
  I am so out of it this morning w/ a headache that it took me a moment to get that. LOL I was thinking, "what does that have to do with this thread?"
