With today's economy bartering / trading services or tangibles is becoming THE THING to do! I'm all for it  The Today Show had a little tidbit about this and referenced these 3 websites and they are cool. Thought I'd pass them along to my 4042 crew as I'm sure you guys could get some use out of them too. Neat!

In past we've done bartering/trading to get some home improvement work done. I do taxes and dh is in IT, so it worked out really well for us. We don't do it very often anymore, as it's hard to find the time (especially now for me), but I highly recommend giving it a try. You might be surprised at the kind of deals you can make out. I was doing so pretty high level tax work for people who in return were just doing little things like painting a bathroom or helping us plant flowers.

Curious, how do you pay taxes for bartered services?

I believe she was preparing the taxes for the people who were doing the bartered work for her family. Didn't see where she actually paid the taxes. What a hoot! Jet lag on your end!

No, I understood exactly what they were saying. I was wondering how taxes are paid on services that are bartered.

It would be the cost of preparing the tax. Turbo Tax costs a certain dollar amount so certainly she would figure that and her time into the cost of the barter.

I'd love to see the statistics on how many barters pay the tax.

LOL - I don't barter for tax return preparation. The work I was bartering for was more along the lines of consulting, setting up accounting systems (depreciation, bookkeeping, etc), and reviewing controls.

Same thing in theory, if one is honest.

I think that was Hugh's point.
