Benson Middle Places Second In Regional Book Battle Benson Middle Places Second In Regional Book Battle SMITHFIELD-- Benson Middle School recently placed second at the Region 3 Battle of the Books Competition held March 30th in Granville County. Benson Middle competed against eleven teams representing public schools in Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax/Warren, Nash-Rocky Mount, Northhampton, Wake and Wilson Counties. The purpose of the Battle of the Books program is to encourage reading by all students at the middle school level. Students are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature. This year's Battle of the Books List was comprised of 27 titles. Benson Middle Schools team consisted of the following students: Priscilla Martinez Don Maynor Candice Parrish Alyssa Rauschenburg Bethany Rogers Alicia Stewart Zachary Williams Their coach is Sherry Williams.
