    Hello All,
I have AT&T/Cingular for my cell service. It has it's ups and downs, problem is that in my profession, I am pretty tough on a phone. The only "tough" phones I can find are from Nextel. I hate the bar phones, I am old fashioned, I like my flip phones.
Who do you have for service?
    Any suggestions on providers? Phones?
The only place I have ever dropped a cal is at the intersection of Old Drug Store and Hwy. 50.
    What do you suggest?:allears:

It's a bit expensive, but here's what you do:

    • Buy an AT&T cell phone and service.
    • Buy a Verizon cell phone and service
    • Buy a Nextel cell phone and service
    • Buy a Suncon cell phone and service
    • Buy duct tape.
    • Tape all the phones together.
Between them all, you MAY have a decent phone signal at most times. But there are no guarantees.

I definitely do NOT recommend Suncom. Their service sucks in this area. I can't wait for my contract to be up!

I have sprint right now, but my contact is up in 2 weeks I will switch to Verizon, several friends have it and they are happy with it. I like sprint, but anytime the wind blows the wrong way or we have a thunderstrom it goes out.

I have heard lots of good things about Verizon. I have Sprint/Nextel and use it solely because my job requires it (direct connect).

We too are looking to change from Nextel. I have heard good things about Alltel - anybody have comments on them?

I have Sprint and we have had no problems with our service. I drive from 40/42 to RTP everyday and no dead zones. We also go to the outer banks alot and we have never had any problems. Nextel is a different story. Their customer service sucks, but from what I have heard from other people so does, ATT, Alltell, Verizon, etc. Also remember that it may not be the service area, but the phone. If you start having problems with a phone dropping calls, find out if you need a software upgrade.

I have had Alltel for about 5 years. No problems yet! I think they are awesome! I can get service just about anywhere.

I just switched from Nextel/Sprint to Alltel, and so far I'm very pleased. Not only do I have service in spots I wouldn't have before, my bill is much smaller.

That's part of my problem - as far as what I've looked at online with Alltel - I don't think switching will save me ANY money, looks to be about the same..:?

We had AT&T when we moved here and couldn't get a signal at the house. Our realtor had Alltel and got a signal everywhere we looked at homes in Wake and Johnston county, so we switched to Alltel and have been happy for over two years now. Just wish we could get rollover minutes like we had with AT&T.
My husband has AT&T with his company phone and we have noticed an improved signal in the last two months. He can acutally use his AT&T phone in our home, yeah. We are close to the 40/42 area.

How is the "touch to talk" feature with Alltel?
We've got Nextel/Sprint and love the walkie-talkie features - we use it 95% of the time. However, the service at our home is terrible. Most of the time, we don't have service in our home and that is a real bummer. There is a cell tower really near our house and I hear Alltel is on it so it should be better but I don't want to lose the walkie talkie feature.

I was just looking at Verizon and Alltel websites and I don't see where Alltel has a 'push to talk' but I did see it on Verizon. Does Alltel have this feature? That is one thing I like about my nextel as well. Verizon's push to talk phones are expensive, compared to their other ones.........

I didn't think I'd save any $ either, but using their "My Circle" feature, I really was able to reduce my minutes.

I didn't get the "touch to talk", I had gotten to where I never used my beep beep anyway.

LOVE Alltel!!!! And my LG phone!!!

    4000 mins/mo - 3 phones, all taxes, crap included $190
20 "circle of friends" that I can talk to for FREE who are on other networks.

why have the "beep beep" ? You can talk FREE to each other. :hurray:

My current bill is around 90.00, those others are at least that or more, so will probably just stay with what I have......although we don't use all of our minutes or beep time. DD just wants text msging now - and all the services charge extra for that. :?

We have had Alltel from Day1. Currently have 4 phones, 900 shared minutes, about 90 bucks with 10 people MY Circle. Don't have any idea about Push to Talk as I don't like hearing others conversations all the time. Reception is good mountains to coast for the most part. I can't tell you how many times I have reception and other phone carriers don't. My son's phone doesn't get good reception though, so sometimes it is the phone. Not a brand of phone either, my LG phone, the Wave, gets great reception, his LG 8600 or whatever does not.

i have sold almost all of them at one time, mostly nextel and alltel, go to all their web sites and look at coverage, alltel has buy far the best coverage, and from all my dealings and its a lot over the past 5 years alltel is the easiest to get along with as far as customer servive and have the best policies, people will complain about every company, you have to find out what works where YOU go, everybody goes some where different, but alltel does have the best overall coverage and i will put their plans up against anybodies, and no dont get verizon because they bought alltel, because in this state there are more alltel towers than verizon, i would gladly answer any questions you have about alltel

about the push to talk, remember none of the other walkie talkies can talk to nextel wt`s, and all the other companies have limited numbers of phones that actually have the wt feature, and you can only talk to that companies phones that actually have the feature which is almost done and they all charge you extra for wt when mobile to mobile is free, as is nexrint now, the wt is on the way out, get the my circle and you can still call those nextel customers free

I have checked out Alltel and AT&T the only problem I keep running across is that the phones are crap.
I have yet to come across a phone that I can't break on the first day.
The only good thing about when I used to have Nextel and this was before Sprint bought them, was their phones were unbreakable, for me at least.
I tried to put my SIM card in my old Nextel phone, but it would not work.
    Grrrrrr.:banghead:
