Admittedly, this thread is a chat room chestnut- I apologize for that.

Anyway, I'm something of a movie junkie and I'm always looking for a new fix. Anyone have any suggestions? We all(?) love 'Casablanca', 'Jaws', 'Rear Window', 'Trainspotting' et al but I need more...

    Help a brutha out?

    WOW!

That's great! Most of these are already on the shelf. I don't know what that says about me, or you for that matter!

Loved 'Alien', but I think I like 'Aliens' better, just because I'm an ex-(?)jarhead an' they blow stuff up in that one.

Loved the Chevy Chase theme too, but you have to include 'Caddy Shack', I think.

Also a big Monty Python fan...FYI, Google 'The Four Yorkshiremen' if you like English comedy (...there's an oxymoron, sorta like 'English cuisine'...)

'Gettysburg' and 'The Mission' are ones I have missed, but I'll be adding them to my post it note list- Thanks!

Tonight I watched the director's cut of 'THX 1138' with Robert Duvall and Donald Plesence. It's been years since I watched it, but it's still a surprisingly good movie- more 'Logan's Run' or 'Soylent Green' than 'Star Wars', but a guy's gotta make a livin', y'know?

    Yes,

    The Mission
    Sleeper
    THX 1138

    Just watched:

The River Rat : Tommy Lee Jones, Martha Plimpton. Not on DVD, had to get of 'net.

Here's a rundown of my Facebook (you've probably seen most of these).

    Desperado
    Shaun of the Dead
    Donnie Darko
    Spinal Tap
    The Jerk
    12 Monkeys
    Blade Runner
    Brazil
    Dune
    Ghost World
    Jean de Florette
    Manon of the Springs
    Pan's Labyrinth
    Rudy
    Run Lola Run
    American Psycho
    Equilibrium
    Seven Samurai
    Whale Rider

If you really like movies: Jean de Florette and Manon of the Springs. They're a duo. Probably 6 hours in all. Has a really great twist. Gerard DePardue.

I'm going to have to take another look at 'Steel Magnolias'. I haven't seen it since it came out, but I remember Shirley MacLaine being really funny in it.

...and there's another good one, starring a very young MacLaine: Hitchcock's 'The Trouble with Harry'.

I have been looking for a copy of Brazil (not really looking, since I'm sure Amazon has it but I'm cheap!) mostly to see Robert DeNiro as the plumber again. Thinking of DeNiro reminds me to mention 'Ronin' also starring Jean Reno, and the original 'Cape Fear' with Gregory Peck (in the 1991 remake DeNiro made a horrible mess of the role Robert Mitchum did so well).

So many good suggestions, and so many I've never heard of!

A few that come to mind as some of my favorites:

    Drop Dead Fred
    Hook
    Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
    The Abyss
    Secret of My Success
    Sommersby

  16. A man after my own heart. Airplane! is my favorite comedy of all time. I also love the Nake Gun movies. Lesley Neilson is a genius in my book.

The Hot Shots movies are also funny. I love the spoof movies when they are done right. Lately, Hollywood hasn't been gettin' them right!

Tarantino films are (one of my...) guilty pleasures. Maybe I'm a snob but I feel like I shouldn't like them but I do. Somewhere between the dialog, the music and the casting there's magic- the story itself is almost irrelevant. 'Pulp Fiction' is probably still my fave, although 'Death Proof' is also a strong contender.

Did anyone mention 'The Usual Suspects' yet? Gotta be close to the top on the top 10 'Best Endings' list.

I'm not much for his films either.. I did like Four Rooms and Inglourious Basterds looks good. Pulp Fiction was a mess and Kill Bill was boring.

The Usual Suspects was a great movie.
