I saw what looked like a coyote on Guy Road yesterday, so keep an eye on your pets! At least I think that's what it was ... it ran out in front of my car. The guy coming the other way and I were so stunned we just slammed on our brakes and stared at each other (like "Was that really what I think it was?").

I'm not originally from here...are there a lot of coyotes in the area?

Scary....there used to not be coyotes in our area, but in recent years the coyote population has grown considerably. I have heard of several other coyote sightings in the Clayton and Garner area. Kinda makes me afraid to let my dogs play in my fenced back yard unsupervised...I doubt a fence would deter a wild hungry coyote (shudder....)

Jean, I freak out whenever my babies wander to the back of our yard at night. We have an acre fenced and when they are at the very back, you just can't see them (esp with 2 of them being black). Now, I guess mom will be walking out to the back with them if they go at night!

We've heard quite a few most nights lately between Steel Bridge & Little Creek Church Roads.

Okay, that scares me! I live close to there. We've seen a lot of wolves but I had no clue there were coyotes near us. Guess I'll also be walking to the back yonder with my pups when I let them out at night. Thanks for the heads up!

It's weird ya'll mention that. I let Buddy out, we don't have a fenced in backyard (he stays in the yard), and last week a few times at night he was going ape **** over something in the woods behind the house. Of course when he starts barking I come flying out the back door with a mag light and armed just incase. I personally would LOVE to shoot a coyote. A coyote mount would be a nice additon to the deer mount collection we have.

I saw one a few months ago at the entrance to Ole Mill Stream in Clayton. It was BIG!! (and no, it wasn't a dog) I stopped the van to get a better look and he just stood at the edge of the woods and looked back. FREAKY.
