I have a girl's 24" bike that needs tubes, tires and 1 speed control knob. Does anyone know anyplace in the area that can refurbish it for a kid that wants a bike?
I'd like to know that, as well. My son just stepped up from a 16" to a 20" and his old one needs a little refurbishment, but is still in very good shape and needs a good home. I know that there's a church in my hometown that does that for kids at Christmas, but its a bit out of the way. There's also the "Bicycle Man" in Fayetteville who accepts bike donations, repairs thems and then gives them away to needy kids at Christmas. However, that's a little way to go, too. If there is some place in Johnston or Wake, I'd like to know where I could drop off the old bike for a kid to have one.
There use to be this place http://www.1304bikes.org/donate.html but it appears they are not accepting right now. Perhaps they could steer in the right direction
I work closely with a guy who has a program in Wake County that teaches kids how to fix up used bikes which are given to need kids and teens in the community. It is a very meaningful program for the kids who are involved in repairing the bikes and was featured on UNC TV back in March. If interested, you can send me a PM and I would be glad to put some bikes in the back of my truck and take them to work with me for the program!
One More Time I will ask once more if there is ANYONE who can help me donate the above mentioned bike. It is ridiculous to drive 40-50 miles to Durham of Fayetteville do donate it. If no one can assist I will have to trash it but I will feel awful doing it. I sent PM to one member who said they could help but they have not responded. Goodwill just throws them in the trash rather than rehab the bikes. Again it needs inner tubes, a new speed control and some TLC.
before trashing it, just leave it out by the road with a sign stating "FREE" that solves your problems about it getting trashed.
Or post a free ad on 4042.com for it. I'm sure someone would love to pick it up for free and tinker with it.
or just take it over to off White Memorial Church Rd. and park it, it will be stolen in no time flat:evil:
Or SE Raleigh. My husband says that there is less than a 30 min. turnaround once someone leaves a bike and when it gets stolen.
