Hi I found a big black germanish shepard dog in my back yard caught in the trees, he was on a long lease I have him tied in the back yard near our shed hoping he will go in out of the rain. gave him some thing to eat. He had been out there barking in the rain at the house. Like hey you fools come let me loose I am stuck! The guys said he had been there for a while, I had been at the store. I looked at him and realized he couldn''t move very far and went out in the pouring rain with the guys telling me "get back in here he is as big as a bear" and saw I was right. He is very friendly, well kept , an I hate to send him to the shelter.

I will get a picture tomorrow it was just too wet and nasty to do it tonight.I will post it here at the Food Lion and Dr Wells. He has my shed to sleep in for now, we turned on a radio so he wouldn't be lonely and left the light on so he wouldn't be too scared. My son has fed and watered him, it's not the Hilton but he'll doing fine for now. Thanks for the ideas Ken. My dogs name is sunshine, my son is calling this dog moonshine

I think you are right, I put signs up at the vets food Lion and Dr Wells. Hope someone calls he and Sunshine are not friends, they had an lets say an arguement yesterday. Called the rescue number and got a message that the number wasn't working. so I e-mailed. I talked to the vet about scanning him for a chip so may go there today.

More than sunshine but she only barks if she hears something. At first he barked a lot not knowing where he was, but now just when he sees something he does not recognize. You know he had a long lease on him which is why he got caught in the trees can't be too far from home. I looked around this am with my grandson for lost dog signs, around Cleveland elementary school and middle school, I live on the other side if the tree line. My sons think I am nuts for putting so much time into a dog I don"t even know, oh well nothing I haven't been told before

First...Debyan, she is a beautiful looking dog, hope you find her owner/home for her soon. Thanks for looking after her like you are.

Ken, you are I'd say about 100% correct in your mentions of Rotties and their behavior...you definitely know your breed. One thing though to add about your previous remark...

Even the best vets are not often good at breed determination. While vets know what makes the bodies of the critters they attend to tick and keep on ticking - which is pretty amazing considering the many shapes, sizes, species and breed specific problems some of these animals can have and their patients can't really communicate (I don't have to tell you an animal will do it's best to hide the fact that they are in pain out of instinct) being able to identify breed or breed mixes in dogs or cats for that matter is not a requirement, nor is it a specific class in veterinary school. Vets learn breeds by experience and there are over 400 registered breeds of dogs out there if you take into consideration UKC and some of the other kennel clubs…not just AKC (cough)…some of the rarer breeds are not as easily recognized as a Rottie, G. Shepherd, Dalmatian, etc.

American and English Foxhounds, along with Harriers are often determined to be Beagle Mixes.

Flat-coated retrievers are often confused with being “lab mixes” or called “long-haired labs”

Cannan Dogs are often taken for mutts and vice-versa.

The Belgian breeds especially – the Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren and even the Belgian Malinois can be mistaken for “Shepherd mixes”

Go into any shelter in the country and you will find that even people who work with hundreds of dogs at a time often make mistakes in naming a breed or breed mix of a particular dog.

We fostered a RR not too long ago. Shyest dog ya ever met. She was a loyal gal and oh so smart. I was new to that breed before she graced our home. For sure a breed that makes my top ten...of course, mine starts with MUTT!

That is exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the pics. The roundness of the head and the markings on the face sure look like Rottie to me.

Looks like a sweet fella, I hope his owners find him soon!

Well today, just got home with the g-kids after school, I saw this lady who walks her dog all over and caught up with her. Asked if she had heard anyone say they lost a dog. She said no until she heard him bark then she said I know that bark. She told me where she thought he came from and she was right. They had been looking around since Wed. just through the woods from me. So he is home tonight :D He wasn't even 9 months old and he was a mix of german and rottie. They were happy and I am so glad he is home.
