What's up with the person in the classifieds begging for a "cheap" car for her soon to be 16 year old. First ...she posts the request at last minute. Second ... who would put their child in a car that cost $500 or less??? How safe can that be? Third ... and most irritating ... she insists her daughter MUST have a car for her 16th birthday. Perhaps the daughter should get a job and start saving $ for a decent car.
perhaps the daughter MUST have a car so that mommy won't have to leave work early are get to work late taking the daughter to school or to work so that she can earn the money for a decent car. In some ways it can be more beneficial as a learning experience as well as helpful to the parents in having a car for the daughter. Secondly; why would you buy your child an exspensive car that would require alot higher insurance rate when they are an unexperienced driver. I think it is smart to buy a "clunker" for a teens first vehicle. Craig
First vehicle was a 1971 Dodge truck with a 440 4 barrel carb. 2 tone blue paint, with a single traction rear end. And a nice blue cracked vinyl bench seat. Craig
my first was a '74 orange VW Karmann Ghia...sigh! (the floorboard was so rusted out I could see the ground rush by under my left foot)....but I looked good in that little thing!
69 Mercury Cougar XR7, and looking for one now. C6 and I have some...memories..naaah...recollections...uhhhh..fergit the why. (blush, blush) we want the danred cougar... anyone know of one let us know.. H6
New 1973 Mustang Mach 1, 351CJ 4bbl, C6, medium yellow gold with black vinyl top, black interior, with added L60-14s on chrome reverses and F70-14s on stock alloy, air shocks, traction bars, built in AM/FM/8-track/CB, hood pins, and only lacking wings to fly. My oldest's first car was a 1972 Cougar XR7 convertible with a 351 C and I still had spare parts floating around from my first car that still worked on it .....
'67 Opal GT. Dark green and went by the name of Puff the Magic Dragon.  Paid $300 cash for it. It ran great (down hill with a tailwind.) Totaled it 2 days before my 18th birthday  :x
1976 AMC Pacer. Selected by my parents through my grandfather who "knew a guy who would give us a good deal". Red with the wood side panels. Yes...the fishbowl on wheels. Leaked when it rained but had the most comfortable seats ever and great road visibility. If it rained REALLY hard I had to (twice) get it towed and have the water siphoned out of the gas tank. Special feature I discovered when the pneumatic arms for the hatch back gave out and I had to raise and hold the door with one hand while I loaded it with the other....if you pushed the tailgate door up high enough the radio would turn on...even with no key in the ignition. To this day I think it was my parents sneaky method of birth control. No female in their right mind would ever be seen in or anywhere near that car!!
i would put my dd in a car less then 500. i drove cars that cheap. Dads a mechanic and can keep the up keep on it. everyone cant afford a really expensive car for thier kids.
my first car was a Mazda GLC cost me 500 bucks totaled it 11 days after i turned 16 and then got a Ford Pinto less then 400 bucks i have driven alot of cheap cars...
Mine was a 76 AMC Spirit, the cheap version. Basically the "Gremlin" with a window where the solid panels were on the Gremlin. Oh yes, it was brown, my friends refereed to it as the mouse ****.
Mine was a 69 Olds Toronado with a 455 engine that only ran on premium gas. When I was 16 I wanted a 73 Challenger (which was my drivers ED Car) but my dad said NO to that car.
My first car was a 1976 Toyota Corolla, it had a hole in the floor board, the A-frame was rusted out, and the clutch was stripped. It cost $100 and a new battery, lol..........
1977 Ford Granada. 4-Door............ This was in the mid 90s people. It was a old ladies car that I paid $500.00 for myself. Dark blue with blue interior. Then my next auto was a Chevy Luv pickup with 14" tires on the front and 15" tires on the back. Blue also in color. Leaked water so bad, I'd sneak out of class early to add water to the radiator so other classmates would not see my clunker getting water .
