I need ideas for my son's birthday coming up.

He will be 9 years old, and does not have a ton of friends, but he wants a party.

I have no idea what to do,
    should I go somewhere?
    Do it at home?
    If at home, a theme?
His birthday is the very next weekend after halloween, (the 4th)
and I will not have time to take down the halloween maze before then.

Thought about maybe a Halloween theme.....

Ugh. any help would be greatly appreciated.
What do 9 year old boys do now?
My childs life seems to revolve around video games and yu gi oh

    (I wrote "mine childs"...doofus  )

Last year we had my 8yo grandson's birthday at our house right before Halloween (his bd is on the 20th) and did the Halloween theme. The kids all came dressed - we had all types of scary stuff for them to do - they all had a blast. It was about 10 kids, some from school, some from boyscouts. One idea they really loved was we took those little plastic pumpkins and put coins and candy in them and then hid them all over the place and they had a pumpkin hunt.

    That's not bad kaci,

I was thinking something like that would be neat.
I am so old fashioned, I am here thinking egg toss, silly string fights, ballon races, stuff I liked when I was a kid.

Geez, I feel old sometimes.

We also did the bowl of guts game. Some kids were brave, some weren't

My 9 year old son had a Halloween party last year and it was a blast (not a birthday party)

We did a pinata, it was ok... we carved pumpkins and they loved it. We had them all gutted and ready. We bought the books with the patterns for kids and they just had to poke holes and connect the dots. They were all so proud of their pumpkins and they got to take them home as a souvenir.

We also wrapped treats in tinfoil and hid them around the yard and when it got dark had a flash lite search. They really liked that. It ended up being flashlight tag after but they had a blast.

My son wanted a bon-fire but I was too nervous with other peoples kids.

Could you celebrate early and do a combined b-day/Halloween party? I am afraid too much Halloween stuff after the fact may not be as much fun.

What I found out was you don't have to plan out every minute, they found things to do and had fun.

    Good luck!!

I am all about having birthdays outside of the house. I have used places like Iterskate and the bowling alley before. The usually supply all paper products and cake. Plus the kids get to skate or play. The best part there is NO clean up on your part.

My son just turned 9. We had a family cook out....pig and the whole 9 yards.
The best thing I did was rent one of those blow up jumping castles. The kids stayed in there the whole time. Since your son likes Yu Gi Oh, there's your theme. The castle was great. They run about $150.00 for 4-5 hours.
    Our party was a blast.
