We tried the new Japanese restaurant Friday evening. Pleasant appearance, food was tasty and most folks were friendly but they need to work on customer service a little. Possibly visit a well run restaurant and take notes!
We've enjoyed the food we've had there as well, been twice. The sushi we had was excellent, the hibatchi dishes we've had were also good. I do agree on needing a little better organization on the customer service end.
Hibatchi or Teriyaki chicken runs about $10, the steak dishes start around $12, I think I had the chicken and shrimp combo and it was around $13... the sushi starts around $4/roll up to $9, depending on which one you order. Dishes come with soup or salad, fried rice & their honey glazed carrots. If you order Hibatchi style, it come with mushrooms (which are great), and teriyaki style comes with broccoli. We ordered 2 dinners (chicken & steak), 3 drinks (1 glass of wine & 2 beers), and a california roll and with tip I think we were around $45. If you eliminate the alcohol, I think its pretty reasonably priced for what you get. There is no table show (they don't cook on the table like Kanki, once you seen and paid for that show, its not worth paying for it all the time), the food is great and comes out of the kitchen fully prepared. If you like to watch the sushi being made, there is a sushi-bar at the back where you can sit and have a drink and watch the sushi chef at work.
The California rolls were the first sushi type things ive ever tried and they were very good. Watch out for the soy sauce though. Go with the low sodium stuff. The real sauce is like eating a salt lick.
I've had different sushi rolls at different places... the ones I have had at Bonsaii both have been good, we've had the California Roll (if you're not a huge roe fan, ask them to go lightly on it), and the avocado & crabmeat roll was great too. Next time I want to try their softshelled crab roll... that sounds good. I like Sashimi as well, and their fish that I saw back in the sushi area looked very fresh, I might try one of those next too. I like salmon & tuna sashimi rolls... i can't bring myself to try sea urchin or squid, and I have tried and don't like eel or octopus (unless it's really good calamari).
I agree, I have had Octopus raw, boiled and pickled, and will now eat it only as a courtesy. Reminds me of eating rubber bands and about as tasty!
After taking parasitology in college (and working in the university health center lab encountering many infested foreign students) I never again ate any raw animal products. (I don't walk barefoot outside either.)
Ah........ YES. Hook worms, pin worms and a few others. They 'dig' in via a wound on your barefoot and then you are WORMY! Ugh... In the 1800's many NC children died of WORMS. Lovely thought. Put on some shoes.
