In order for me to get products from the suppliers, I need to get my own tax ID number for me to put down on a dealer service application. Where and how do I get my own tax ID number? Also, same thing for Dun & Bradstreet number - how do I get these?
You can apply online for a tax id from the IRS. The D&B # is usually used by larger companies. Make sure you also have your county license, and that you register with teh secretary of state as well...and be prepared to pqrtly sales taxes to NC.
I have just started researching this. You say you need Tax ID for purchasing products. I am assuming that you need this so you will not pay taxes on what you buy. If that is what you are talking about then you need to fill out this form: Sales and Use go to http://www.dornc.com/downloads/fillin/NCBR_webfill.pdf. This site may also help you with any other questions you may have. http://www.nccommerce.com/en/BusinessServices/StartYourBusiness I called them the other day and they are very nice and will make sure you understand everything. The web site has been a blessing too.
Depending on how you want to structure your business ( sole, inc, llc and so on) will depend on what you need to set up. Some wholesalers or distributors will go on your SS number and thats the way you would file your income as well. You will still need to apply with the state to do your sales tax reporting. What kind of business or products are you trying to sell and will you have any employees? Will this be a store front or home based? These are some questions to look at as far as what you will need to obtain in order to operate. Good luck.
It's going to be home-based business and it's going to be just me and my hubby. I've contacted the State office and they are very helpful on what do I really need to do.
